Ping.exe

I received an alert from my firewall for ping.exe .. it looks like a microsoft process but what does it do and why all of a sudden launch itself?

Click on the Run ESET Online Scanner

:ar:Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
:ar: Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.

:ar: When asked, allow the activeX control to install

Ping.exe is a tcp/ip command amd is usually situated in c/windows/system32 folder.Its a legitimate file .

I absolutely agree with you and oddly this has jogged my memory for me because i too received such an alert a few months back even though my machine is clean,so maybe its a windows routine call out or something.?

Check in msconfig/Start Up/Services. (Non Microsoft Services)
See if you have a program getting a request to call home.

Please remove any usb or external drives from your computer before you run this scan!

Please download and run RogueKiller to your desktop.

Windows 7, right-click on the program, select Run as Administrator to start, & when prompted Allow to run.

Click Scan to scan the system.
When the scan completes > Close out the program > Don't Fix anything!

Post the report located on your desktop.

I have decided I am just gonna re-install windows 7. I had my screensaver disabled mysteriously as well. So a reinstall is in the cards... laters
