you MUST have some sort of AP in order to do this. clients won't work.

If you turn on internet connection sharing, my experience has been you can never turn it back off without formatting the computer. it is an option though. please tell me how if I am wrong.

it is better to simply buy a wireless router. if you have a decent router you will probably get about 200-400Mbps over a gigabit LAN.

another option is to buy or make a crossover ethernet cable and connect the 2 computers that way. no switch or hub needed in that case. you would need to disable wireless on the laptops to connect with a cat5e crossover cable.

another option is similar to above, except instead of using a crossover cable, you use 2 plain cat5e cables and a network switch. if everything is gigablt you will see wonderful speed.

there is a way to turn off ICS, sorta kinda. but it's not really quite "off". your system is never really the same once you turn it on. right click on all your network connections, pick properties, advanced tab, turn off ICS. it is essentially a DHCP server. universities call it a rogue DHCP server. and they say you might have to re-enable it for home networks once you have turned it on.

or reformat your computer to fix the ICS problem.
