That MB supports ddr3 ram. No your ddr2 will not work. Is the i3 all you can afford? What is the price rang you are looking at? The i7 or i5 would be better but you can always upgrade in the future.

I can buy a i7 in 3 weeks do you think it is better to wait then? And must I buy that motherboard is it sufficient for the i7? And also that MB can take a lot of ram sorts witch it the best to use DDR3 2200/1800/1600/1300/1066/800 MHz DDR3-1600 : Sybaritic - South African Online Computer Store check out that website and tell me what would work out the best for the cheapest. I can always upgrade the RAM after a while

I havent looked at the store, but I have an i3. If you can get an i7 in three weeks, by all means wait. I need to see what choices you have about the motherboard. But, Can you buy from the US? I don't know about taxes and customs overseas but I would think you could get much more for your money in the US. Just my opinion, I will be happy to give you my advice as long as you take it as that - just my advice. But, if 3 weeks makes the difference between an 13 and an i7, I wouldnt even consider the i3- its a 2 core just like the one you have now, it is just able to fool the OS into thinking it is a 4 core. But, in the end, it is still a 2 core and will only do as much as a 2 core. The i7 is the top of the line processor right now. Wait the 3 weeks. Thats my advice.

What do you plan on doing with your new system?
If your planning to overclock you might want to get a better motherboard.
Graphics programs will like more RAM.
Do you want/need quad core or is dual core going to work for you?

Don't see any Gigabyte 1156 motherboards on that site, do you have another source?

The less expensive 1156 socket boards are listed with waiting periods for delivery, like Dec. 9 and 17.

For starters, this system has a lower end motherboard, good mid range i5 quad CPU, good RAM.

Asus P7H55-M PRO IH55 Motherboard w/A8 + G + LK + SATA2 + DVI + HDMI - R1,267
No stock - expected Friday 17 December.
If you can get some more money or wait a while, get a better motherboard. Or find one that is available sooner.
I would stay with Gigabyte or Asus.

Intel Core i5 760 2.8GHz LGA1156 Processor - 3.33GHz TB; 4x256kb L2; 8MB L3; 4 Core 4 Thread - R1,792
This is a good processor, for the prices on this website this is the best deal.

Corsair DDR3-1600 4GB (2x2GB) Core i7 Memory Module Kit - R925
Good memory, should be no compatibility issues, check the motherboard site for the compatible list before you buy.

Total: R3,984

Only problem is the availability of the motherboard.

Looking at the prices for a board, a CPU and 6GB of 1333 RAM that looks to be about R5,500.
It really depends on what you want to do. I doubt I'd notice any difference in performance and I kind of wish I'd realised that before I shelled out for my rig.
Upgrading is addictive and there is always something better.
Also, it's like having a Ferrari to drive down to the shops.:)

John,

You can get i7-8xx series that go on a 1156 motherboard.

The i7-9xx series use the 1366 motherboard.

The higher end i7-8xx benchmark and get higher reviews than the lower end i7-9xx CPUs, upgradability is one issue to consider.

As the market seems to always do, both these motherboards will hit end of life before too long. Already rumors of a new socket.
