Hello everyone,

Ive built many computers. I have never had any problems. Well today I am building a computer for my father. Im doing a fresh Windows 7 install and at first it seemed everything was fine. Well once the installation completed Windows 7 booted. It asked for username, password, and update preferences like it always does. I enter all that information and am taken to the desktop. After about 15 seconds the display says logging off and then restarts and at that point it just keeps restarting and restarting. Does anyone have any idea what might be happening and how I can fix this?

If it helps, the system is as follows:

GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-H170-Gaming 3 Motherboard
i5-6500 1151 CPU
2x4GB G.Skill Ripjaw V Series Ram
Kingston 120gb SSD
CORSAIR CXM series CX550M 550W 80 PLUS BRONZE Power supply

Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome Johnny mate what media are you using because I am assuming a new OEM/retail pack?

I am also assuming it is a new drive etc etc Now if if the media itself is not corrupted then I would take the drive and clean it and start again - I am not a fan of just reinstalling over the top of a previous try or just formatting.

Thank you for the response. I am using a retail windows 7 pack. Ive had it for a couple of years, but it was never used. I decided I might as well use it for my dads new PC and just do the free upgrade to Windows 10. I had tried reinstalling several times before reading your post. Every time the same thing would happen. I downloaded Windows 10 from Microsoft to see what would happen if I installed that. It worked perfectly, but its not registered so I will have to pay for it of course. I would really rather use the Windows 7 so I can get the free Windows 10 upgrade.

As for the drive and software, everything is brand new. Media shouldnt be corrupted, at least I hope not.

Awesome, I did not realize that. I will try that tomorrow. Thanks so much, that should solve my problem. I'll report back and mark this as solved if it works for me.

Yep AddRam is right mate sorry I didn't realise you were after 10. It is what I did with my machines and saves what I consider to be a lot of grief with upgrading or it was when I tried doing that.

I was going to suggest that if you were upgrading after installing 10 then what I always do (because I can afford to ) is to clone the 7 install and then do whatever with the clone that way you have the original drive to fall back on;)

Myself I have just bought a 10 OEM so I can keep my 7 key and just swap drives it I have to.

But anyway now you know what to do
