Please help with setting up 2 PC's

Hello all, I'm a little confused and would like some help as Im a bit new to networking. I have a new PC on the way and was wondering...

I have a Netgear Adsl2 modem / Router with 4 ports in the rear.

The two computers are going to be next to each other and I was just planning on plugging the new PC into the back of the netgear modem to have internet access on both along with the original PC for internet access. NP there.

Is it now possible to have the two PC's connected to each other throught the Router/modem to share files and for my children to play games against each other...I.E home network with 2 pc's talking to each other through the net gear modem/router? Both machines only have the one Lan input (I'm pretty sure)

Both running windows 7 (one 32bit and the other 64 bit)

That is exactly what routers do. If both pcs are on the same "subnet" they should be able to see each other in network.

If you give us more info on what you are trying to do (what games, file sharing?, etc) we can give you more help

It indeed should be possible.

I would suggest they would be a good source of information.

Yes, it is possible, and relatively easy to do. They will already be on the same network. You can also look into Homegroups, since both systems are Windows 7. That should simplify sharing resources back and forth.
