Solved Possible to create a "Move To" Option?

OK I know about "Send To" option where you send a copy of an item to it. The problem is just that, it's a copy; the original item stays in place.

I’d like to know if it’s possible to create a "Move To" option where the items are actually moved instead of copied. I know about the Move To/Copy To folder options in Windows Explorer.

Can I create a "Move To" option similar to the Send To where I just right click and do a Move To?

Actually what you linked to works like a charm. It's exactly (well it could allow for predesignated folders ) what I'm looking for

*update* if you hold down 'shift' while right-clicking and sending, that should move it - and give you your pre-designated folders and your own send'to locations.

Yeah I wanted a right click option and your link provided that.

Would be nice if it had the option to pre-designate folders, but it does what I want.... a right click.

Hello Drew,

When you click on the Move To folder context menu item from the link below, it will give you a dialog box to select where to move the file to instead of a expandable menu in the context menu.

Yeah I got that. I just like how it's set up with Send To where there are Pre-designated folders/drives



It's all good though as the basic right click issue was solved. So now I just right click and choose where I want to file to go. The other thing that helps is that the last location chosen is remembered so you don't have to hunt each and every time

i'm sure it does move it if you keep the shift-key (with send-to) pressed down all the time - don't let go.

well, it does here anyways - it seems to work whether you're shifting (get it?) files or folders within the same partition or to another partition.

To clarify....

When I say "move" I mean the file is removed from the location and and moved somewhere else. When I hold down the shift key and select "Send To" the file is "copied" to another location but the original file stays put. I want the original file moved (as in removed).

i (think i) know what you mean.

maybe it's something i tweaked long ago and forgotten about, but on my machine:

in windows explorer:

1. hold down shift key - and don't let go until i say so!
   
   
2. right-click on file or folder
   
   
3. send to > (shift key still pressed down)
   
   
4. select destination (shift key still pressed down)
   
   
5. watch that sucker disappear from current folder, and reappear (move or shift) to desired location.
   
   
6. now you can let go of shift!

does that not work for you? if only i had some screen capture software to hand and it wasn't 2.10am and i wasn't so drunk.

as i said, maybe it's non-standard behaviour that i tweaked long ago and forgotten about - if so, apologies, and i wonder how i managed to make it like this

I'm not in Windows Explorer. I'm talking about items on the desktop. And as you described, that's exactly how I do it.

Now if I was in Windows Explorer I would just click the item and choose Edit, Move to folder, choose my folder and as you said "watch that sucker disappear from current folder, and reappear to desired location"

well the desktop is still windows explorer (i think)...

and, that sucker still disappears from the desktop on my machine.

odd that it works for me - maybe i'm so drunk, i'm imagining it

a portion of my desktop, before: (note the 'SendTo - Shortcut' shortcut in the send-to menu [about 1/3 of the way down] - so i can send a folder quickly to my send-to menu, if you know what i mean )



and after:



this is with the shift-key pressed down all the time and using send-to :shock:

maybe it's just me, i'm used to being unique
