Solved Possible to have C for two partitions in different installations?

I have Windows 7 on my laptop and I recently re-sized my partitions and restored the first backup when I received the computer to another partition. I then added the installation to the boot so I can use it. However, every time I boot the restored partition I receive "There was a problem starting iedkcs32 dll" along with many errors from multiple programs. I have verified that the file is there and think that this is happening because the drive is no longer C(and it was before it was backed up). Is it possible to have each installation have its own drive as C at the same time? Or better yet, do you have a solution to the problem?

If I understood that correctly, you need to fix the os letter of the restored image.

You could boot into the one that starts correctly, open regedit, load the system hive of the other one, and change the entry in mounted devices.

How did that happen? Most imaging programs will correct that automatically - what did you use to restore the image?

I used EASEUS Partition Master to backup and restore as an alternative to Acronis which took too long. I just want to make clear I am not 100% sure that is the reason for the error, I am just assuming.

It probably is the drive letter , as far as I know Easeus pm will copy the partition - not the same as restoring an image.

Boot into the win7 that is working properly, then tell us the drive letter the restored/copied win7 is on.

Then open a command prompt and type:

reg export HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices c:\MD.REG

post up MD .REG

The file is attached. I also noticed that my main installation can no longer hibernate. I am not sure if it is because I added the additional installation to the boot list but I don't know why it would mess that up.
G is the letter of the second installation

D/L this zip, rt click it> properties>unblock>apply>ok. Unzip it and run as ADMINSTRATOR on the fix-g.cmd file.

You need to do that from within your first installation.

You should then be able to boot into the copied win7.

Tried that and keep getting the error in picture. Not sure why it says that, regedit is not open.

You said you had to sleep soon and I don't want to hold you up.

Are you sure it is on G?

Open regedit and look under HKEY USERS. If you find BEN, click BEN to highlight it and go to File>Unload hive





Then run the .cmd as ADMIN again. I just tested here, works fine.

Just restarted and tried again and it completed successfully. Will post in a moment if it worked.

You would get precisely those error messages if your copied installation is not on G or if the hive was already in use. Probably your reboot did the job.

Try booting into the copied installation.

It is a good idea to make images evrey so often. Plenty of good free versions for that.
