Good morning,

I have searched this forum and googled but I still need help with the following.

When I start my computer I see a screen for just a second or two that says "Press Esc Key for Startup Menu'. However, when I do this Windows 7 just keeps loading normally.

I have two questions:

(1) Is there any way to make this message screen stay on the screen longer?

(2) Is there a reason the Startup Menu doesn't appear while I am pressing the 'esc' key as directed?

Thanks and regards,

1. I'm guessing that is part of the POST screen, so you'll have to check the BIOS of your computer to see if you can alter the amount of time that option is shown.

2. I'm also guessing, if the above is true, that you are using a USB keyboard. You'll want to look through the BIOS to see if you have an option to enabled legacy USB support, or whatever HP may call it.

Since this is an OEM system, you may be limited, or given no options to change either of these settings.

1. You are lucky that your BIOS splash screen does not hange around. That shortens your boot time

2. Do this: When you start the system (power on), start immidiately tapping the ESC key (not just pressing once). I am sure it will work then.

Is that a Dell system?

Hi whs and Deacon Frost,

@ Deacon Frost: I appreciate your information. :) Yes ... it is a USB keyboard

@ whs: Not a Dell ... it is an HP Pavilion.

Tapping the 'esc' key during startup did the trick. Thanks for the tip. :D I don't really need to get into the Start Menu right now but I just like to learn as much about the computer as I can ... just in case something ever does happen.

Since I know how to get into the Startup menu now I will just let the time the message stays on the screen the way it is.

Thank you both for helping me. This forum is a God-send!

Thanks and regards,
