Preventing Software Connecting To Internet

I tried but failed to find a tutorial that will allow me to prevent a program from accessing the internet. I recall it had someting to do with inbound/outbound firewall process.

I was not able to use that, but was able to do the suggestion in post#4 of that tutorial and entered the data for blocking both inbound and outbound communication. I did this right after install AND prior to launching the program. However, when I fired-up the program and cliked it's Help button it opens a Internet Explorer window to the program's help site. This should not have happened, right?

I believe my problem is similar to post#11 in that tutorial (which no one addressed, btw) and I quote it here :

I am trying to unallow a program from communicating through the internet according to this very well explained tutorial, but it puts itself back as allowed. I changed the marked cases from Public to Private and it changes itself back to public or adds a new allowing entry for public. Then I went to the Advanced Firewall (not on this tutorial) and enabled the firewall for that program for any protocol type and for domain, private and public. It changes itself, creates new entries on both firewall controls (normal and advanced) windows. The simple one has now six entries than cannot be deleted. How can I unallow definitely and keep it that way, please?

It probably depends whether you have chosen online help as opposed to offline help.

It probably depends whether you have chosen online help as opposed to offline help.

I do not comprehend. If I configure the firewall for inbound/outbound block I would anticipate a 'can't connect'-type message. Refer to post#4.

I do not want specific installed software to access the internet (i.e. via IE or any other browser). See post#4.

When all else fails, you could edit the Hosts file to block it from connecting, you'll need to know their IP and DNS name.

So loading a URL in IE is consider as the application connecting to the Internet? Afraid you might be looking at it wrong...Anyways just use Sandboxie...

Either way, or in any event nothing can circumvent the Hosts file ! It will only stop anything including IE to connect to that site, it wont stop IE from launching.

If it is launching IE then it is just a link. IE is not part of the application, thus it won't be affected by the firewall rule. The way you are reading it is wrong.

I even went into IE Security tab and put the domain as a 'restricted site'. No affect.

The app has a button labeled help. When i clik on it the IE window appears and navigates to the site help page. This means to me that the software (the app) is initiating a connection to the internet and I do not want this to happen. Am I not understanding the functioning?
