Hello,

I've added a new laptop to my home network (now 3 computers, all of them with win 7 ultimate 64) . I didn't use home group because i don't like it, so i configured everything manually and everything worked great, file sharing. printer sharing, everything.

And then I added a password to my user on the new laptop to protect it and the sharing between the laptop and the two other computers stopped working. when i try to access the laptop from another computer it reports i have no access, and when i try to access one of the computers from the laptop it asks for a user name and password.
i uninstalled firewall - didn't help. reinstalled. i removed the password - problem solved. added password again - problem returns.

all users on all computers are administrators.

maybe something about group policy...

anyone have an idea ?

Hello and welcome to the forum,

Does every PC on the network have the same username? I'm guessing that you dont have a password on the other PC's which have the shares on?

If so, add the same password to the other PCs and this should work again. When your computer attempts to access a share it will use the current username and password of the PC that you are logged on to as the default authentication credentials. So when you access a share it uses these credentials.

Another alternative is to make sure that the everyone group has full permissions on the shared folders on the other PCs. This needs to be done in both the Security tab and the Permissions tab within advanced sharing.

You were right, that was the source (the duplicate user names) for the problem but the solution i used following an advice on another forum was just to add credentials on both computers.

thanks for the help.
