Problem connecting to WiFi - wireless icon not working

Hello,

I seem to have a problem with my WiFi. Left-clicking the wireless icon in system tray doesn't work as in literally nothing happens. When I open the network and sharing center and click on "connect to a network" then also nothing happens. Right now it's only a minor problem, because my laptop auto-connects to networks it already knows but when I want to connect to a public WiFi in a cafe for example I can't look up any networks.

Also I'd like to point out that setting up a new connection to connect to a WiFi works but for that I need to already know the network name and security type. Windows can't find any problems either and I've reinstalled all network adapter drivers.

Hope anyone has any ideas and thanks in advance.

So you mean to say when you click on the wifi bars in the icon tray it doesn't project up, does the other icons also not do this?

Yup, that's correct. All the other icons work fine, just the wireless icon doesn't project up.

I remember seeing something like this before, can you login with another account and see if it's the same for that account?

Same with another administrator account and with a guest account the wireless icon doesn't even appear.

This is a far shot, but have you got a third party software installed to control your wifi connections?

Nope, never used any although right now it seems like a good idea to try.

I fancy the built-in software, but it's up to you, end of the day something isn't right with your OS could you do a repair?

I really like the built-in software as well but not much i can do right now so it's a temporary solution. Don't have any repair CDs either so can't really do that. System restore didn't help either...

what about the OEM CD that comes with the machine, or get your hands on one cos you can do system Repair that will put back all system files incase you might have corrupted something.

I think i actually have a Windows 7 Home CD at home but not sure if it's 64bit or not. Anyway, will see next weekend. Thanks for now though and if anyone else knows what this might be then all the help is welcome.
