Hey everyone. Looking for help using the TV out on my ATI Radeon HD 3400 video card. I hooked up the S-Video cable from my card to my DVD Recorder (my old TV in my bedroom has no S-Video) and I can't get Windows 7 to switch over to the TV, it keeps saying "Unable to save display settings" thus not being able to use my TV. Is it because I plugged the video cable to my DVD Recorder, and not the TV?

Hi natebee and welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, you've already answered your question. Video detection works only by direct access and not via mediums even though it supports the same input/output. Unless the connection in the device you're using has a built-in pass-through system that can route the signal directly even if, in this case, the DVD Recorder is off.

I am having a similar problem. I am trying to have 3 monitors the 3rd being my TV which is plug in via and HDMI cord. The monitors and TV will only work with 2 at a time. For some reason when I try to extend windows on to any 3rd option it will not let me save the settings. I have ATI Radeon HD 5770 I get the error message "unable to save display settings"

The new 5770 can support 3 monitors. However you can't use 2 x DVI & 1 HDMI.
It has to use the Display Port connection, even if you are not using eyefinity (3 monitors spanned as one screen)

So the valid connections are DVI - DVI - DP or DVI - HDMI - DP

an Active DP-DVI adaptor can be used to convert the DP signal to DVI.
so you could use DVI - HDMI - DP & Active DP-DVI adaptor
At present these Active adaptors are quite expensive.
