Problem taking screenshots in games

I Installed Windows 7 around a month ago and have since then not been able to take screenshots ingame. I have been using Gadwin and before the Windows 7 install I had no problems. I used Vista before. Today I tried Snagit to see if it was just Gadwin but the problem is still there. The problem is: either black screenshots or screenshots of the windows I have in the background like the desktop or Firefox. Doesn't matter what game I play. Why is this and what can be done about it?

You can't capture some game screenshots if they're rendered a certain way, that's my understanding of the situation - however I'm not a gamer, and don't know the technical reasons behind it :zip:

Theese are games that was fine to screenshot with Vista, like WOW. Is this something new with Windows 7?

Introducing, a tool from 2002. If it's on the screen it's be easy.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/51160-screenshot-upload-using-mwsnap.html?ltr=S

Btw, the games windows can be resize/minimused etc right?

Not sure what you mean, but I play in fullscreen and can alt-tabbing them with no problem.

personally none of these options are any use to me due to different issues

fraps works the best ingame sometimes but also initiates elevation prompt so it's a pain and it's buggy with win seven losing it's screenshot button allocation.

and none of the the other options are any use as I always play fullscreen and need to screenshot with a single button push and no prompt to save.

If the snip utility would screengrab with a button push and autosave to a specified directory with no prompts then it would be perfect :D

Same here, I don't want to "snap" anything, I want to be able to take a shot of the screen with a simple press of a key and make the pic autosaved, but this isn't working with games since I installed W7.

your limited to one screenshot with the printscrn as you need to minimize and paste your clipboard contents into a program such as paint then save ;)

I need multiple screenshots which for anything up until windows 7 there where two or three little apps that would give you ingame screenshots but there doesn't seem to be anything i can find available yet for seven :(

It's been my experience that that's simply not true. I can take as many screenshots as I'd like using the PrtScn key; 1 or 100, it does not matter. I install no software to do this... never have... I don't even install my keyboard drivers.

Yes, you can alt tab and paste them into paint, but you can also deal with them after the game. In the game's directory (where exactly differs with each game) you'll find a Screenshot folder, aptly named: Screenshots. It's created when you hit PrtScn.

This has held true for 7 as well as all previous MS operating systems. First thing I did after installing 7 was to install my favorite game, then fired it up and snapped several screens. This function still works just as it has for the last decade.

Honestly, I don't know why one would bother installing a program to do this when it's a function of both the OS and the game. Sure, FRAPS is great for making movies, but if your only concern is screenshots, then why would you hamper your game by running an app that's superfluous?

Because I for example want all my screenshots gathered in one place. It does work taking screenshot with the games own tool but with Gadwin or Snagit they come out black. Why?

I can see some games not having a screenshot function, which I agree would suck... none have come my way yet, luckily, but since the PrtScr key works and captures images outside of gaming, then wouldn't it have at least a little something to do with the OS?
