Have a look in your activex controls under Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom Levels

it sounds like you disabled a previous activex control that Flash requires to function properly.

What I might also do, if it were me in the situation, would try a couple other steps also. I would uninstall flash, then reset IE, have the browser closed, then re-install flash while temporarily disabling the AV program during the flash install. If it still did nothing, I would uninstall and try a different AV other than AVG. Perhaps Avast, or Microsoft Security Essentials to see if AVG is interfering.

Yes I have tried the suggestions. I still have to re-install Flash periodically. It will work for a while then all of a sudden I start getting messages that Flash is not installed asnd I have to install it again.

It would be worth checking if there is an old Flash Cookie causing a problem. The standard instructions for Bobbi Flekman's "Flush Flash Cookies" are to select "Everything but Site settings". However, in this situation, I think you should check "Everything" and then go to the Adobe Website Storage Settings panel to make the changes to the settings. (Suggested settings are in my old blog post here.)

Download Flush Flash Cookies by Bobbi Flekman.
Select the Windows version and save flushflash.exe to your Desktop.
Double-click flushflash.exe to run it.
Select Everything.
Click Make it so!.
When the "Killed off all Flash cookies" window opens, click OK.
Close Flush Flash Cookies.

(Note: If you use Quicken, do NOT use this program at this time as Quicken stores information in Flash cookies.)

Do you have an alternate browser (Firefox, Safari and/or Opera) installed on your computer that has the most recent Adobe Flash installed? If so, does it exhibit the same problem?
