I tried setting my mates AOL email account (imap) tonight in Windows Live Mail 2012, everything went fine until it was time to "download" the folders from AOL, we keep on getting a "Server error message" and the folders will not download.
Now I know nothing about AOL as I'm in Aust. and my mate is in Michigan USA

I have Googled for answers left - right and center and the answers I did find re the settings did nothing to help us with the problem.

Could somebody help us out please or point us in the right direction as to how we may solve this issue.

Thanks.

What is the exact "Server error message" you get? A screen shot(s) might be easiest and best.
Can you post screen shots of the Email account setup showing servers, ports, security settings, etc?
Just don't post the email address or any other personal data.

Thanks for your reply.

Problem has been solved after many hours of searching and re-creating the email Account, my mate forgot that somebody had hacked his AOL account so he had changed the password.

We changed the password yet again and viola! everything worked.
