Problem with Gameguard, please help =)

Good, hopefully GameGuard will stop using its dodgy methods to do its job now. Luckily the games that use it are mostly crap but nevertheless, I have avoided any game using GameGuard since XP.

I have not checked all the games on the list but this workaround worked great for me to address the problem with Chronicles of Spellborn, and will most likely work in other games as well.

  1. Install whatever game you want.
  2. Install the game Crossfire.
  3. Delete the GameGuard.des file from your game which is not working properly.
  4. Replace it with the GameGuard.des file installed with Crossfire.
  5. Run your game and it should work fine. :D
  6. Remove Crossfire if you do not want it wasting space.

Verified this again last night with The Chronicles of Spellborn on Windows 7 Build 7100 x64 ultimate. Went from not working to running great. When you start the game, instead of crashing GameGuard will run, download some new files, and the game will launch.

I tried this with Gunz and indeed, this did let me get past the error 0 or whatever it is, however after game guard finished updating itself and the main game started to initialize itself another error came up stating something about "the game terminated by unknown error" and closes. So i guess this will only work with some games, anyways Gunz doesnt work with this fix.

Personally ive always hated game guard just because its a bogus anti-cheating implementation. It always reports my one media player i love to use as a hack. As far as im concerned GG is a hack in itself hooking into everything and the way it works. I always liked X-trap better. Too bad so many free games use GG. For now ill switch back to my previous OS and switch back to windows 7 once GG is forced to become compatible once windows 7 is retail.

If you get past the Game Guard problem and get to a game specific error make sure to try all the normal things such as different compatibility modes, and disabling desktop composition and effects. :)

i already had all firewalls off, UAC off and compatibility mode set for xp. Like i said im just going to wait till compatibility issues are dealt with (much later). Theres other reasons besides games im waiting too, although one of which probly wont change (refresh rate issue). But i give microsoft props for improving performance.

Hmmm

:sarc:...I must be the only person that this fix for windows 7 didn't work on. I downloaded a version of the GameGuard.des file that people were saying worked for The Chronicles of Spellborn as well as installed Crossfire and used that games GameGuard.des file (by the way crossfire runs fine on my comp) and I still get error:0 when trying to load spellborn after making the file swap. Any ideas anyone?

I'm assuming its basically the same error.

You Rappelz guys can try this Downloads - Rappelz - GameGuard Windows 7 Fix

But can someone please try MLB Dugout 1.0 from GameCampus !@#

I tried that and if you read it applies to 64 bit version. Im running 32 bit and youd think it doesnt matter but it does and it has also ben posted else where saying that only applies to 64bit and it also says on that same sight i beleive if i remember right that it also is only for 64 bit version. I had also come across that page hours ago...

I hear yah but what I dont get is why some one cant make a 32 bit version fix if they already made a 64 bit version fix...

The problem with Gameguard is that it supported Win7 Beta 7000 32bit/64bit
and it seems they just now got around to a Win7 RC 64bit

What the BIG issue though is that even IF Gameguard updates everything those games have them built in so it's up to the GAME Developers to update to the latest GG for their games.

Least that's what SiL/Acclaim told us once upon a time.
