Problem with rasman.dll - help please

Hi All - I'm 'very' new here and would like to ask for assistance.
I've been using Windows 7 for a few weeks now and absolutely love it - but - very frequently I get a pop message, two in fact, which are driving me nuts.
First one concerns rasman.dll in System32, which tells me that rasman is not a recognised windows file ....etc
Second one gives me the same message, but refers to vaultcli.dll.
I've been through all the 'fixes' suggested on various Forum locations (not this one - until now) and most say to download and replace the faulty files. This has achieved nothing.
Does anybody out there have a sure fix for this annoying glitch?

Go to start menu, then search.
Type cmd. Right click the cmd.exe that shows up and choose run as administrator.

In the black box, type sfc /scannow

Oh, and welcome by the way.

Thanks for the input guys - much appreciated.
I have earlier done a 'repair' re-install, but that hasn't helped.......??
I tried the 'scannow' process, which progressed smoothly (very slowly) until it reached 23% complete, at which time, my computer started to make 'strangulated beeping' noises before locking up completely.
Maybe there is something drastically wrong with my install. Don't want to do a complet re-install as I have got W7 set up how I like it now and really don't want to do all that work again.
Any other ideas guys

You could try the sfc command while booted into safe mode. It may complete well then. Or at least tell you what it has figured. In the meantime, I still recommend a malware scan.

You could also check C:\WINDOWS\LOGS\CBS\CBS.LOG for the log to the sfc you already ran, to see if there is anything helpful.

Definetly sounds like malware, MalwareBytes or SuperAntiSpyware should work wonders for you.

Hi torrentg and jverse ........ thanks vm for the responses.
I have downloaded MalwareBytes and will run it in a couple of minutes.
I tried to look at C:\WINDOWS\LOGS\CBS\CBS.LOG but I was refused access.......???!!!
Hoping that MalwareBytes is the solution.

Ah well Guys - I tried.
MalwareBytes was run (it took almost 2 1/2 hours to complete) but nothing was found.
Maybe there's only two choices left.......
1 - Just live with it until the final version of W7 can be installed.
2 - Do a fresh install from the disc and spend a whole lot of time getting W7 back to how I like it.
Option #1 is more attractive I must say.

Hello mike, Has it always done this from the install or has it only just started?
Can you list the programs you have installed?

Iam guessing its something you have installed that has corrupted those files.

We need to find out if it is something you have installed that has caused this other wise if you do a clean install and load the same program your going to be back at square 1

Hi Anthony - thanks for your input - sorry for the slow response, but it's been 'night-time' here in Oz .
This problem started a couple of weeks after initial install.
I have installed quite a few programs........
Photoshop CS3
Palm Desktop (up-grade for W7 as provided by Palm)
Picasa 3
GIMPshop
Adobe Reader
Pro-Show Producer
DVDfab
AVG 8.5 (Anti-virus etc)
Mozilla Thunderbird
Open Office
uTorrent
MalwareBytes

All these worked fine, except Photoshop - which I subsequently uninstalled. If I have to suspect any program, it would be Photoshop.
Since uninstalling it, I have done a 'repair' re-install of W7.

Your sage observation about doing a clean install followed by re-loading my programs is welcome. Why bother if I end up in the same boat.
I tend to think that I will just live with it until the official launch version is available.
It's more of a nuisance than a problem.

Well, I got so tired of the constant pop up warnings that I did a 'repair' re-install.

Next time I will try to remember to back up my emails (doh!)
Anyway, no more pop warnings about the dreaded rasman.dll - hooray.

In the end, the simplest suggested proved to be the one that cured the problem.
