Solved Problem with security access to files on 2nd HD after installing windo

I recently installed windows 7, and pervious to that I had my windows XP.
I have 2 HD and the second one is where I put most of my files.

So i tried to open one my my pictures, and found a message saying:
"Windows photo viewer can't
open this picture because you don't have the correct permissions to access the file location."

So I've tried to change the security prefrences to the HD using the security tab in the HD properties, but every time I try and change something, a pop-up message comes up for each file in the HD saying: "access denied".

So I can't change any of the security preperties.

Go to Device Manager and uninstall the drive, when rebooted it should clear the problem.

I tried that, It did not work..

Well I tried that, It did not work.. thanks for the fast reply though!
I think that all of my files are still owned by the previous windows user..
Maybe there's a way to forse the change of ownership?

I tried to change a sub-sub-folder security properties and now i can play the music files that are in this directory.
But there are still many directories that when I try to change their owner pop up a message Access is Denied.
Maybe this information will help...

When your problem happened to me a while ago, I transfered one or two folders at a time to the main hard drive, deleted it on the external drive then replaced them. I did not have enough free space on my pc's hard drive to do them all at once.

Have you taken ownership of the drive yet? Do this on the root of the second drive:

To take ownership of a file or folder

1. Open Windows Explorer, and then locate the file or folder you want to take ownership of.
2. Right-click the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
3. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
4. Click Edit, and then do one of the following:
   
   • To change the owner to a user or group that is not listed, click Other users and groups and, in Enter the object name to select (examples), type the name of the user or group, and then click OK.
   • To change the owner to a user or group that is listed, in the Change owner to box, click the new owner.
5. (Optional) To change the owner of all subcontainers and objects within the tree, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.

I have taken ownership... but as I said an "Access is denied" message appears.
BTW thanks roadrunner, I did as you said it I think it works (I haven't finished copying everything yet)
it may not be an elegent solution but it still is a solution
