Problem with the driver on my laptop

So I have an MSI GT70 laptop which has an 892 audio chip. Last driver that worked was 6.0.1.8010. I tried this new one 6.0.1.8040 and I am getting an issue. It seems that it is causing a conflict with the keyboard lighting program. I install the driver with no indications that there is a problem. I reboot and I get my keyboard lighting off with a message that the program is not working. I also see that my speaker icon at the bottom right has a red X through it upon confirming in the device manager that it has a yellow symbol with the exclamation mark.

Anyone knows something for a fix?

Hello mate now what I would do is a system restore back to before the new driver install and see if the KB comes back ok.

Now what was wrong with the old driver install? and did you really need to update it as they say if it is broken .........;)

Thanks for the reply ICIT2LOL, a couple of things. Something is wrong with the driver 8040 on this laptop. I downloaded another copy and still same results. I ran some NET Framework tools to see if there were any issues; none. I then created a VM, installed only chipsets and then installed just this driver; nothing else at this point was installed. Same problem. I created another VM and immediately just installed this driver and still the same results.

So something in this driver constipates the laptop. So reverted back to 8010 where it worked fine.

As for why update, for two reasons. If it is broke then update to see if it gets fixed, but because they (manufacturers) also include performance enhancements (not all the time) one would want those as well. Earlier drivers (78xx) did not sound very good on my laptop, but the 79xx and 80xx have definitely made an improvement. So why update? Sure it was not broken, but then again the performance is what I want and it has been great.

Problem solved in regards to staying at 8010 which has no problems, but this 8040 for my laptop is just not good.

Thanks for the help.

Ok mate to be honest I have not had much to do with VM stuff so cannot comment on it.

Now if the 8010 driver is working ok then best left as is because it not uncommon for a new update driver to throw a spanner in the works. An example would be with NVidia graphical ones at times - people will update to the latest driver only to find it has issues, and one usually advises the owner to go back to the previous version and it is again usually the answer and fixes the problem.
It all smacks of a buggy update to me and I would if were me leave it for a while and then try the update again and at least you know what to do now eh?

Of course it could well be something to do with the system on the laptop and a run of these would not go amiss
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2 (if you are going to use the /r switch there is no need for the /f switch)
Run these in safe mode and the sfc often best run for two to three runs – you can leave out the /r switch in ckdsk if you feel it not necessary

Just a by the by two things I just pulled up the laptop's site and the version for the audio is 6.0.1.7324??

Support For GT70 Dominator Pro Dragon Edition | MSI Global | Laptops - The best gaming laptop provider 64

Now there are two model listed under that number and it might be I have linked the wrong one:p

The other thing is I saw in your specs you have 9GB RAM in the desktop and am curious as to that amount installed?

Hey ICIT2LOL, yeah. Normally I wait and see at least two posts about a driver here. This one I jumped the gun and found i bad. No biggie, just chalk it up on my list of "buggy" drivers and moving on.

The Nvidia statement is a good one. I usually sit and not update until I see some more posts about it.

SFC and all the rest are standard runs I do, but thanks for running my grey matter

Ahh, my old specs, gotta update.

Thanks again for your help and responses. Like the "Confusion Therapist", awesome.
