Problem with the DVD-RAM after installing Windows 7

Hello all!

I have some problem and I thank you for helping me...


I had Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition that worked fine. My DVD drive worked perfectly...
The problems started afted I've installed Windows 7..

After I've installed windows 7 I've noticed that the computer can read some of my cds. When I insert those cds and go to the dvd drive it shows me an empty drive.

For example:
Hauppage WinTV driver cd - not working
Microsoft Windows 7 dvd - working
Edimax Wireless adapter driver cd - not working
Microsoft Winsdows xp cd - not working
HP Printer driver cd - working

Even if I try to startup Windows XP, for example, from boot, the computer stuck and I need to reboot.

Those problem appeared only after installing Windows 7...

I've even tried to reinstall Windows xp but I can't because the cd doesn't startup from boot... To do this I needed to burn a copy of the windows in other computer to a dvd disk and then it worked...

So now I've came back to Windows XP and the drive still don't work as expected...

Did your drive come with software? I bought a DVD drive and it wouldn't work until I installed the Nero OEM software it came with.

Please give us your hardware specs, especially the make & model of CD & DVD drives

My drive is HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B of LG, and there is no cd came with the drive

Is the drive showing up in device manager? Any yellow exclamation marks beside it? How old is the drive? Could it just be a coincidence and that the drive is on its way out? A new drive - and I know it's not what u wish to hear - is not extortionate at all: $35-55?

I have to say that the problem showed up at first in my brother's laptop. I thought that it is an hardware problem. Now the problem is in my computer. I'm sure that there is a solution

More than a likely there is a solution, yes but I suspect a brand new drive will be recognized - cost is minimal.

Try this :

Uninstall CD/DVD drive in Device Manager.

Power Down computer. :ar: Disconnect CD/DVD cables (data & power) :ar: Power Up computer :ar: check Device Manager for NO CD/DVD drive listed :ar: Power OFF :ar: re-connect cables :ar: Power Up again and see if it finds new hardware & reinstalls it.

Have you checked LG website for any Firmware updates for this model ?
