Problem with username and password

Hi all, I spent may hours configuring outlook to no avail. I have tried Mozilla Thunderbird too. The problem on each is "username or password is wrong unable to connect to the server". Strange thing is my username and password works fine on Gmail etc.
Has anyone else experienced this and can you advise me as to a solution please.

The problem may be in the Windows version you're using.
