Problem with Vmware server 1.0.10

Hello all,
i have a problem with Vmware server 1.0.10 on my Windows 7. I installed Vmware server 1.0.10 successfully. I tried to install Windows server 2008 and Windows server 2003 Enterprise but i received BSOD (blue screen of dead) in both case. I tried some configurations of CPU, memories, etc but always I received BSOD after what I turned on (powered on) the virtual machine. Could you please help me with this problem? Thanks

Um...you probably should be using VMware Player 3.1. VMWare Server 1.0 is a very old release.

Or if you want to use VMware Server, update to version 2, which supports Vista/7 and 2008/2008 R2.

I can not use Vmware player because I want to run win server as virtual machine... I found that VmWare server 1.0.8 has support Win 7 so i thought that 1.0.10 should support too... Maybe I have wrong informations and I need to use VmWare Server 2 for it as you wrote. Thanks for yours replies

You most certainly can use VMWare Player 3.x to run Windows servers as virtual machines. You can also use Linux Servers as virtual machines. Not sure where you got the information above, but it is factually incorrect.

I use VMWare Player 3.x and presently run Windows Server 2008 R2, Server 2003, XP, Ubuntu, CentOS, OpenFiler, VMWare ESXi, Puppy Linux all as virtual machines.

Yep, either VMware Server 2 or VMware Player can run these on Windows 7 without issues. And note that you don't need the server version to run a server guest OS, you can also do it on VMware Player.

Hi there
one advantage of running Vmware Server is that you can logon to a Virtual machine DIRECTLY without having to logon to the HOST OS first.

Very useful if you are testing a lot of stuff remotely or want to have something like a Web server enabled on your Virtual Machine.

Running VMWARE PLAYER, VBOX, or VMWARE WORKSTATION runs as a task on your HOST OS so you have to be logged on to that in order to launch the application and the Virtual machine(s).

Another nice feature with vmware server is that virtual machines can be started and shut down automatically at shutdown / boot up time.

The only problem vmware server has currently is that W7 virtual machines running under it don't support full aero -- hopefully the next release will address that issue.

So to recap -- once your vmware server has started its Virtual machines you can logon to them remotely WITHOUT LOGGING ON TO THE HOST SYSTEM -- in fact you don't even need an account on the host system.

As I said -- incredibly useful way of testing VM's and running Web servers or even Database applications.

(Vmware Server is FREE BTW).

I'm not sure about VMWARE player but you can certainly run Windows 2003 or Windows 2008 servers under VMWARE Workstation -- and of course vmware server.

At any one time I usually have 2 W2K3 virtual servers and one W2K8 virtual server running among others.
