Solved Problem with Word on new computer

I got a new computer and the guy who did the work said that he put everything back off my old computer. However, when I use word now, I have to change the style and the font every time I try to write. I use the Word 3 style. It was set on my old computer. I also have to change the font, because when I change the style, my default font goes away. Is there any way that I can make Word 3 work every time I open a document.

The word 7 i have now is double spaced and I cannot use that to write. It also will not allow me to change the line spacing to single space.

Please help. This is driving me crazy.

Is Word in Microsoft Office or Office 365?

Can't you setup a Template to your specifications so that every time you open Word it will be as you desire?

Your Word Template probably needs resetting. Go into options & find where Templates are, open that Template & set it with the font you wish to use & then save it as the Default Template. Then each time you start Word it should use the default template. If you make changes to a document be sure to save it as some document & not save it as the Template or your original saved Template will be changed.

Thanks for responding Ranger 4. I am old and not very good with computers. Where is this option thing? Can I mess up my word somehow? Can you talk me through this?

In your first Post you mention Word 3 & later Word 7, so to clear up exactly what versions you are referring to, could you supply a bit more detail, such the year of these.

However, in the meantime you could follow what is on the YouTube video below. Just click on it & should open, but ignore the opening advert & wait till it actually starts.

For Microsoft Office try this:

Open Word > click the Office button [top left of document] > click Word Options > click Resources [on the bottom left menu]. Under where it says about Microsoft Office Word, it will give you the information you require.

If you want to see more details, click About [at the bottom right middle section].

I did that and there is no information about years there.

In Word 2007, one of the options of Save As [Save as type] is to save a document as a Word 97-2003 document, is that what you mean?

When you say Word 3 style, do you mean a style [that you have customised] that is in the Home tab > Styles?

Where are you getting the Word 7 from, please explain?

You can change the double-spacing by going to the Home tab > Paragraph > Spacing > Line spacing > change to Single.

I am not really following what you are talking about, sorry!

I would assume that when he did this then, he obviously didn't transfer all your settings etc, or they didn't get transferred correctly!

It is very difficult to try and envisage what he did do, and what he didn't do, in order to be able to help you!

As I personally don't use Word that often, perhaps another member maybe able to assist you!

Click on the Start Button & select Control Panel. When that opens select Programs & Features. Then scroll down to Microsoft Office & see if it is installed, if so it should show what year version it it is.

If not, scroll further down & see if Microsoft Word is listed & it should also show the year version. Word will not be shown if you have Office installed.

Once we get the version established we can help[ with setting the Normal Template for your documents.
