Problems detecting printer

I've just done a clean install with Win7 Pro x64 and want to install my printer (Brother DCP-9045CDN), but so fare without any luck.

My printer is connected directly to my router (Zyxel P-2602HW) with an ethernet cable and the DHCP server in my router is active. The problem is that Windows doesn't detect the printer at all.
I've tried with Windows firewall both on and off, and UAC both on and UAC off. I've assigned an IP address in my router for my printers MAC address, and I have tried with the printer LAN config in both auto and static (with the specific IP address entered). I've tried to replace the ethernet cable. I've tried to install BRAdmin Light (a Brother network printing admin tool). According to Brother's how-to-succeed book then I'm doing everything right and it should work except it doesn't

I'm pretty sure it's me doing something wrong as it's the first time I'm trying to install a network printer. Hopefully somebody out there know's more about this stuff than me and can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Does the printer get an IP? Print a config sheet to ensure your printer is grabbing an IP... then once it does, "add local printer" through printers/devices... uncheck scan for plug and plays... create a new port / TCP/IP and add the ip address for the printer.

Have you tried the Add Printer method from Devices and Printers and choosing Network printer? Worth a try! :)

When I enter an IP address in the LAN menu on the printer then the printer recognizes the IP address but the router doesn't. It is as if the router doesn't see the printer at all. When I set the IP etc to "auto" in the LAN menu then everything goes to 0.0.0.0.
I will try to connect it to a different router when I get home tonight or tomorrow to see if that solve the problem.

Yes, I've tried the setup wizard. Both windows own and Brothers.

You said you created an entry in your router for the printer:
"I've assigned an IP address in my router for my printers MAC address"

Does your printer grab the specified ip address from the router after that?
Did you happen to typo the mac address by any chance?

Try disconnecting your printer then reboot. After reboot plug it in and have computer go look for it if you are connected by usb. Worth a try!
