Problems installing 64 bit version

Anyone have problems installing the 64 bit version from the Technet downloads? I have tried it on two different notebooks. One is brand new out of the box. The problem is that it takes over 3-4 hours to install and after the reboot after installation, it is dog slow with multiple blue screens. The first machine I tried is a 6 month old HP/Compaq 6715b AMD 64 X2 notebook with 4 GB of RAM. The second computer I tried is a brand new HP 550 with 2 GB of RAM.

I'm currently in the process of downloading the 32 bit version to see if that makes any difference.

It installed fine for me in a Dell Optiplex 745. The 64 bit install took about 20 minutes total and is running fine. I know that doesn't help, but I wanted to at least get it out ther there that it is at least someone who has gotten it to work.

can you gives us the full specs of the two notebooks??

were they running 64 vista before?

edit: that 550 doesnt have support for 64bit....

have you checked the hashes to see if they werent tampered??

if not then it might be bios...

edit: hold on i checked and the compaq you mentioned does have x64 support

click on which OS came with your computer (Business Enterprise Home Basic or Premium)

and then upgrade your bios....

if this dosent work then you might have a bad disc...

burn it with the lowest speed

I highly doubt the download was tampered with. I downloaded it from Technet via my subscription. I'm currently downloading the 32 bit version and will try installing that version to see if it installs any better. Both the 6715b and 550 are 64-bit processors. I did download all the drivers for the 6715b but it blue screened when installing the video driver. I'm also getting assertion failure errors all the time when closing programs on both machines:

Surely I can't be the only one having problems. This mass public beta is going to fail miserably once it gets out tommorow and people start installing it on a widespread basis.

Edit: Yes, they both were running Vista 64 bit just fine. I also always do fresh installs (no upgrades)

Downloaded 64 and 32 bit from Technet. I have been anxiously waiting for the 64 bit so installed it stratght off. Took about 30 minutes, including setting up the Lan. etc. (Slower computer, I think, than KCDale -its a 64 bit laptop with a 1.6 dual core.)
No problems encountered and no blue screens.

I just don't get how you guys are getting it installed in 20 minutes. It takes longer than 20 minutes just in the "Expanding files" part of the installation. I know I'm not using speed demon machines, but one is brand new that I just unboxed. One machine is a dual core AMD 64 X2 1.8 Ghz with 4 GB of ram and the other is a dual core pentium 1.4 Ghz with 2 GB of ram.

Both machines spend about 1.5 hours in "Installing features" and then another hour or so in "Completing installation". Plus I'm getting assertion errors all over the place.

Update: After downloading the 32 bit version, it indeed installed in about 30 minutes. I was shocked, much better than the 3.5 hours install time of the 64 bit version. I am going to try redownloading the 64 bit version again tomorrow.

even from tectnet it can be corrupted someway or another....

also if you can burn the dvd at the lowest speed possible....
that would help...
i usually get a 20 min install (compared to a 28 sometimes) at least to me between speed (then again i dont have a good cache and im burning from a laptop so that might be the case too....)

the 550 dosent show 64bit drivers in the HP page.... (thats what i meant that there is no 64bit support)

i think you anwsered this question but i am unsure...

did you update the bios?

I have several machines. (64 bit)One I have previously used for installing 7 is a 3.2 dual core with 4gbs ram. I am also confused by reports of installations only taking, in some cases, as little as 15 minutes. I consider the install right up to the desktop, including setting up the Internet/Lan. I have never achieved better than 30 minutes. If you include the updates, which come almost immediately after the completion, you can add on at least another 5 minutes.
But, aside from that, you have most ceratinly got something wrong with your setup. Even with your slower machine, the time is ridiculous!
It would be odd if a corrupted disk would cause such a strange problem. If it was that corrupted, I would have doubted it would complete the install.

Well this is a new one on me. It was in fact a corrupted download from Technet. I downloaded the 32 bit version and it installed in about 30 minutes. I then redownloaded the 64 bit version and it installed in 32 minutes. I find it odd that the install from the corrupted download never errored out during the install, it just took about 3.5 hours to install and was very problematic after bootup.

Thanks for all the help. I never thought that a corrupted download could do something like this (I would expect the install to fail with an error).
