My computer crashed the other day while i was playing starcraft 2.
Since then, restarting it only leads me to a system recovery screen. The only option that I can really use is the command prompt. I have looked over a few sites and tried to fix it myself, but since safe mode won't work. I feel I need to reinstall windows7.
When I put the System recovery disc it gives me the "An unexpected error has occurred."

I'm at a loss, nothing I try seems to work. How should i go about reinstalling windows7?

Thank you for your help, and Sorry if this is on the wrong section

If you can get into Command Prompt, try the command sfc /scannow - maybe it can fix your problem.

I tried running the sfc /scannow.

It came back with "a system repair is pending, restart now and run sfc again" So i restarted again, and I got the same message.

more info:
at the System recovery options, system restore and system image recovery do not work

Hmm, does not look too good. I don't like the disc part. Since the message is not very specific, it is hard to say where to start. You could run the chkdsk /f command. If there are faulty sectors, it can correct it. But if e.g. the MFT is corrupted, we'll have to try to fix it from the mirror.

PS: I'll be off now. It is past 1AM. Will be back tomorrow.

the chkdsk /f did not work, it came with an error message that said the disc was write protected.

Thanks, I appreciate any help

Can you burn to CD free Partition Wizard bootable CD to get a graphical interface, post back a camera snap of the drive map? Free Download Magic Partition Manager Software - Partition Wizard Online

You can also run File System check and Surface Scan on your partitions from there.

Make sure Win7 or it's 100mb boot partition is marked Active, boot into Win7 DVD repair console or Repair CD to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105541-startup-repair-run-3-separate-times.html

I made a cd with the link you sent me, but when i booted from the disc, I got the windows logo, and then it went straight to the system recovery options again

Did i not do it right?

maybe you need to change the boot options in bios to cd first?

I have a windows 7 DVD, it goes to a screen that tells me to install or repair, I hit repair and it goes back to the system recovery options again. It says I can use a system image? How would I go about repairing through a system image?

You'd have to have a System Image file stored for it to use to reimage your HD: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/663-backup-complete-computer-create-image-backup.html

Is it discovering an installation to repair in the window where you make those choices, just after you choose Repair My Computer?

Tick the other radio button to go to the Recovery Tools menu and select Startup Repair, run up to 3 separate times with reboots. If it fails, make sure Win7 partitition or 100mb System Reserved partition (if you have it) are marked Active, then run Startup Repair again x3.
