Problems with dual screening and Windows 7

Hello,
I have a Westinghouse 22" monitor with a native resolution of 1680x1050, but my Windows 7 partition is unable to display this resolution. It worked for the last three months, then I started to dual view with my laptop's display, and now I can only display 1600x1024 max with options of refresh rates of up to 85 Hz. I didn't change any display drivers. They have all been the same. Windows 7 doesn't work with native resolution, but XP and Ubuntu do work. I am able to dual view with my laptop display with XP and Ubuntu flawlessly. The first three days that I started to dual view with my laptop display in Windows 7, it worked. Then, it started to get wonky when I turned my computer on one morning.
I am using GeForce 7600 Go with the latest drivers.

The resolutions you can use are entirely dependent on the graphic card and drivers. Reinstall the Windows drivers.

Hmm, could it be that maybe Windows got confused when I started using my laptop display as another monitor, because then I was forced to use resolutions with the same proportion as my monitor. Also, how would I install the Windows drivers as opposed to the ones provided by the manufacturer. I uninstalled my drivers, but Windows doesn't seem to automatically install them for me (so I am stuck with a low resolution).

Edit: Hmm, I got it to update, and it didn't seem to work for me. Windows thinks that my monitor is an Acer AL1714 and sets my resolution to 1280x960.

I have had dual screens before and Never had a problem.

Windows 7 does not like Nview at all and I suggest you Uninstall the Drivers, And when it comes too install go and install the DRIVERS only and not the Software that comes with it.

Then restart, goto the Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display\Screen Resolution select the screen you want and then change, should be that strait forward.

You need the right drivers, and of course you need to have the correct display installed. Some displays are "plug and play" and others are not.

You can set the display resolution in various ways, one of which is right clicking on the desktop and choosing "Screen Resolution". Best results are invariably obtained if you use "Native Resolution". Also referred to as "recommended".

If you don't have the right display installed, ( you can check with "Detect" and "Identify" ), then you may not be able to choose the resolution you want.

I cannot find any drivers for my monitor. Is there anyway to custom fabricate a driver, or trick my computer into thinking it can run 1680x1050? I've tried using Powerstrip, but it didn't work. My native resolution is 1680x1050, but it doesn't appear in the list of resolutions. For some reason, it prefers 1280x960. I even list all resolutions, and that is the max resolution that it goes to. I've identified the monitors correctly. My laptop's res is set correctly. I am not trying to set that one.

Hmm, is there anyway to just install the drivers without the Nvidia software? I am using these drivers:

I've reinstalled the drivers multiple times. Not sure why it was working with my monitor before, but when I started using my laptop's screen alongside with my monitor's screen, it started going wonky. I didn't set up a system restore point, so I cannot revert back to that period.

I'm looking for a way to override all resolutions so I can set my monitor's resolution to its native resolution.

It's not detecting my monitor correctly. It used to give me the model name of the monitor, now it just says Plug N Play.

I had the same problem!

Download Nvidia Control Panel, and make your own resolution and then apply it. Worked for me (I run Dual-screen (1680x1050)).

This should fix your problem

I tried that last night, but it didn't seem to work. After I uninstalled the drivers(graphics drivers, then monitor drivers), I restarted. The resolution was poor (640x480), which was to be expected since I didn't have any drivers. I let Windows search for the best drivers, and it actually installed the drivers from the official Nvidia website (the ones that I had before).

I had the same problem!

Download Nvidia Control Panel, and make your own resolution and then apply it. Worked for me (I run Dual-screen (1680x1050)).

When I tried that, I get custom mode test failed.

Also, is there a reason that Windows lists my monitor as an Acer? I might try to make a custom .inf to set the res to 1680x1050 and the refresh rate to 60Hz.

In view of your previous posts, there is only one possibility here, and that is that the Windows 7 drivers are either incorrect or corrupt.

Use driver sweeper to get rid of all old installations, and try installing the drivers again;

Make sure that your displays are set correctly. Check the box "Make this my main display" where appropriate;

Nothing seems to be working. I wiped all of the drivers, and reinstalled different Nvidia drivers, the latest, the next to latest, the one before that, but I am still having problems with my native resolution not displaying. I think that the software for the drivers are the cause for the problems. I logged into my Windows XP partition, and the resolution was messed up all of a sudden. It also used to work. The two partitions are separate, yet now my XP partition has the same problem. They have the same Nvidia drivers, and they both happened when I enabled dual view.
Only Ubuntu is my last operating system which supports dual view (laptop and monitor).
Are there any third party drivers for my video card(I know it is a little old, but it would be great if there was still some support for it)?

I really need help with this. After 5 minutes of looking at my monitor, I feel so sick. Powerstrip says that I am running on a refresh rate of 75Hz, which is definitely not the optimal refresh rate for this monitor.
