Just completed reinstalling my software applications into Windows 7 Pro 64, from Vista Ult 64, and realise that my Office 2007 package will not auto update. I can go up to the MS Update site, and manually download/install them one at a time, but trying to update from start/'windows Update' icon it only looks at the Windows 7 state. Another problem is that whilst I can open any relevant file in Excel or Word from the open command in the program, If I double click directly on any file, it opens the relevant Office package, but I get an error message stating " There was a problem sending this command to the program", and no file is loaded. I have tried a Windows 7 repair, and re-installing the Office 2007 package, but the problem is still there.
Any suggestions what might be at fault, before I have to restart the long haul of reinstalling the whole package again !!

Have you installed the SP2 update for O2K7?

Make sure you have SP2 for O2K7 installed. Also, check for addins that look suspicious.

Hi oneextraid - thnks for your quick reply - Yes I manually downloaded and installed SP1 and SP2 after installation. Another clue maybe - I generated, and saved a *.txt file to my flash drive. Still got the stated error message when selecting 'Open with' MS Word, but select 'Open with' WordPad and it works OK !
I am using Kaspersky 2010, and tried disabling it.

Have you run the Office 2007 Diagnostic Tools which are packaged with the application?

Microsoft handed down an update fairly recently which was set to disable unlicensed versions of Office 2007 which were being improperly installed and exploited under one or another keycodes. Some users with legitimate activation codes were mysteriously hit, as well as the update also whacking the piracy brigade quite nicely.

I haven't heard of an instance of a Windows 7 user being affected, but there were certainly casualties on earlier platforms - however I have no links to hand.

Any errors of this nature may also merit a chkdsk pass on the drive(s) affected, it's just possible there's been some minor write error that's preventing normal behaviour.
