Processor Upgrade

Hi

I currently downgraded to an LGA 775 system because the Haswell i3 is way too much for me. I am confused to which processor should I get to my system.

My power supply has no problem on supporting any LGA 775 processor but the Core 2 Extreme.

Hello RoasterMen, On a LGA775 motherboard, AGP graphics was dropped and PCI-e became the standard. Perhaps some if not all chipsets supported 64-bit operating systems.

SATA revision II was becoming available. LGA775 (socket T) generally supported DDR2 533 and DDR2 800. However some of the last LGA775 compatable chipsets ever made supported a DDR3 FSB.

Celerons and Pentium were the earliest processors to fit the socket 775. 3.2 GHz and above were showing good in single tasking benchmarks. The Pentium D introduced dual core processing at the loss of hyperthreading.

None of the socket T processors had more than level 2 cache onboard. Overclockability of these processors was limited compared to future generation processors. E6xxx and the later revised E8xxx were also LGA775 / socket T.

Maybe you'd get an entirely different opinion from other posters. DVD/CD-ROM drives could be either IDE interface or SATA.

I'm a bit confused by your specs.
The Haswell i3-4170 is an 1150 pin cpu. Your motherboard is quite an old LGA 755 pin.
Do you have the i3-4170?

Sorry for that, I have already sold my i3-4170. I forgot to update my PC specs. I am currently using a Core 2 Duo E7500

Q9650 is about as good as it gets
I got a Q9550 not too long ago and it's a lot better than my old E5200 or 5400 by about a mile

This site provides no automatic rules for the uploading of inconsistent system specs. Maybe a good thing or an inconvenient thing.

The fastest non-extreme CPU your motherboard supports is the Q9650. The fastest cpu available in your link is the E8600. Both are faster than your current E7500, but not by much. In my view an upgrade is not worth it, as you are unlikely to notice the incremental improvement.
