Is there anyway to replace my program files folder, program files (86x) and program data files on my hard drive with ones from a different patition? when i try it says administrator permission required on a lot of the overwrite files and will not let me, even though I am the administrator.

Simply copying or moving installed program files from one drive to another is a bad idea. You should think in terms of re-installing the applications.

Also, moving the Program Files folder can cause issues with applications that are designed to auto-elevate. If they're not in the trusted path (%programfiles% original location pointed to by the system), they won't pass the security check and they'll instead cause a UAC prompt rather than auto-elevate. Just another thing to think about.

What happened was windows 7 crashed on the OS partition of my hard drive. I tryed to use the disks to repair it but it would not work so I pulled my information over to the recovery partition and resized my partitions. It is about 300 gb worth of programs and would take forever to reinstall every thing. Is there any other solutions to my problem? Cause my files are just sitting on my desktop basically unusable. :(

And it is the same hard drive to clarify just different partitions

Just having the files is half the battle - you're still missing all of the registry and configuration information for all of those programs, or at least all of those that have decent installers. I know you're not going to like to hear it, but it doesn't change the truth - you will really *need* to reinstall them to get them working properly.

The normal way to avoid such a situation is to make an image of your system when it is running properly and then restore that image in case of a catastrophe. Apparently, you don't have an image.

I don't think you are going to have success dragging your installed programs across partitions.

Your options appear to be to do a successful repair or to do a reinstallation of Windows and then reinstall the programs one by one. Not what you wanted to hear.

Yeah :( I wasnt able to boot an image because it goes to the blue screen of death....so basically I got rid of that partition. Is it possible to do it onto another hard drive?
