Solved Program Files 86 Not Showing in Start Menu

First off sorry if this is in wrong forum but I have searched for over an hour and have not found a specific solution.

The typical 32 bit programs are installing in the program files 86 folder. I understand this is where they are supposed to end and the computer sorts downloaded files depending on capability.

My problem is not all programs in program files and program files 86 are showing up in start menu. I have set my start menu customization to default and I am not experiencing the complete disappearance of all programs.

This is a brand new computer out of the box with 64 bit.

Go to program and right click and then pin to start menu. Go to the program and not the short cut. Type program name in start and then right click when it appears.

That works fine for pinning in to start menu. I would like it to show up under the all programs list. It would not be a big deal for one program but there are several that are not showing up.

Well, a workaround is to modify your indexing so it indexes the x86 Programs folder. Then, all you have to do is hit the Windows button and start typing the program name and it'll pop right up. That would be even quicker than having the program in the list.

Try this method.

1) Open up your "Control panel".Click on "Folder Options".Under the "View" tab,Check "Show hidden files,folders and drives" and Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files".Click Apply then Ok.

2) Now open up "My Computer".Navigate to C:/ProgramData/Microsoft/Windows/StartMenu.
Once you get there,you'll be able to view your program list on your start menu.

3) To add a program shortcut to the start menu,Navigate to your program files folder.Right click on a program icon that ends with .exe,copy and paste it to the "StartMenu" folder.

You can paste any shortcut in the All Programs section of the Start Menu by going to Program Data/Start Menu/Programs and pasting it there.

^ This is what I essentially did but with the entire folder. Not sure if it is correct or will affect anything but all seems fine. Thanks for the quick responses. If there is a better way I would love to hear it but I'm fine with the compromise.

I always put a shortcut to my Start Menu folder in my SendTo menu then whenever I want to add a program to All Programs I just right-click and go to SendTo/Start Menu. Easy peasy.

I'm not sure that I can draw the lines between to connect the dots that you described, because they don't seem to be related. Programs in the Start menu doesn't say anything about x86 as it would in the file directory in a file manager. Please clarify what you are asking.

Sorry seekermeister I always thought that the 32bit and 64bit ptograms were listed in the Start / All programs but I must have been wrong.

Apologies for the confusion I was convinced one could find them - Program Files & Program Files (x86) - there and in Computer C: by double clicking on the C: drive to get Program Files & Program Files (x86).

Just to be sure that I understand...there are both Program File and Program Files (x86) in the actual files of C:, if we are talking about x64. In X86, there is only Program Files, but in neither case does this have any effect on what is listed in the Start Menu>All Programs. All programs, that are actually installed, are listed there together.

EDIT: In regards to what you said about mbam, I think what you are talking about is that the uninstaller does not remove all of the files in the program directory in C:\Program Files (x86). If you want all traces of the program to be removed, you have to remove what is left behind yourself manually.

Now I might just have to invent one seeker - hmmmm perhaps a cybermentiaometer - perhaps even a company "RentaCybereMentoMeter" - RCMM and go around like an ice cream van with that awful jingle music or announcing "Get your cybermentia measured here!!"lol!!

On a serious note (if that's possible when I get going) yes I do spend an awful lot on computing stuff - for example can't go past USB sticks, ext HDD's without getting the one that's on offer! ad infinitum.

PS Don't want a spare keyboard or two (or five ) do you??

If you think that it is awful listening to the ice cream truck's jingle as it passes by, you have no idea of how awful it is to the driver of that ice cream truck. I drove one of those several years during and just after high school.

Any program installed on a computer will have a shortcut created in the "All Programs" menu unless the programmer created it in such a way that it would not have a shortcut. It makes absolutely no difference if the program is 64 bit or 32 bit. You don't need to index anything, or add shortcuts to anything to make it happen. If this is NOT happening on your system, something is wrong with your installation of Windows 7.
