Program permissions and UAC

I'm new to Win7, have it about a week. I'm the only user and administrator on my system. I've chosen the second level from the bottom on the UAC slider. Then i rebooted. The OS asks me if program X can make changes, which is fine. But it asks me every time I start every program. Can't this data be stored?

I run my UAC slider at the 2nd from the top which is the Default position. I am also the Administrator & the only user of my computer & I get asked for permission to run most 3rd party software programs. I do not get asked when I am running Microsoft programs like Excel, Word, Access etc..

If you want to have a good level of security then you will have to live with being asked, that's the purpose of using it.

Although not recommended, you can set UAC to the next to the bottom click.

If the information that a program had been approved by UAC were stored it would be a security risk. This information could be altered by a malicious program and open the door for it to be run without UAC approval. Security always has it's price and that price is often paid in loss of convenience. And not just with computers.

Thanks to you both. It's good advice. It's still asking me about changing a system file. Is that "normal" at my level of security? I can live with, but being asked every time I move or copy something can run me down.

I'm moving the slider now to 2nd from the top.

Yes, you will often get asked if you are changing system files, particularly if they are to do with the operating system or security.

It does depend on what you want to copy or move. Normal copying & moving files in your Documents Library for example, should not ask for permission.

No I was referring to things like refrigerators & items that were around before computers. I am in the age bracket when things like fridges, were almost a luxury, but have since become essential.
