Program Slow after Firewall Blocking.

Alright, so I reinstalled Kaspersky since I feel safer with it.

But here's the issue. On certain things I don't trust yet, I block their internet access so they don't update. I like to manually update my programs.

So here's the issue. I posted a topic a while back about buying a Xilisoft Media Toolkit Ultimate, including five professional and easy-to-use software: DVD Ripper Ultimate, Video Converter Ultimate, DVD Copy Express, DVD Creator, and Audio Converter Pro, can meet various conversion needs with the best quality and super high speed. (Copy and pasted lol).

I blocked their internet access so they update when I WANT them to update. Only issue is, when I blocked internet access for Video Converter Ultimate, it hangs for at least 10 minutes. I unblocked it and it was fine again, blocked it again and it froze again, so unblocked it. This time I blocked it on Windows Firewall (I think, I added the Program and unchecked it) and it was Fine. Anyway I can get around this? Also, the other programs operate just fine under Kaspersky's Firewall.

RE: Kaspersky, you would be better off with MSE and the win 7 firewall, Kas is a major source of bsod'S AND bugginess

I've used Kaspersky since 2008 and have had no BSoDs.

Here's another vote for MSE and Windows Firewall.

Those are the only two I use and the only two I recommend.

I'm not a fan of those super-duper toolkits, etc. and have never found them to be necessary.

Okay, so I blocked the programs with W7Firewall, and to test it I blocked Firefox by unchecking the box for it, but it still connected to the internet. I just tested it again with Windows Live Mail and it connected as well.

I'm gonna try out Comodo Firewall. God thing thing keeps popping up every 6 seconds to tell me something new

Did you have an opportunity to block Firefox access as shown in the following excellent article:

All I know is I added Firefox since it wasn't there in the first place, and unchecked the box next to it.

So...I went to Advanced Settings, made a new Outbound Rule (Which I've never done before), and we're good to go I guess. Blocked Firefox when I did it

EDIT: So....now I'm messing around. I reinstalled Kaspersky. Blocked it on the Firewall, and it works fine now.

What the hell is going on, why does it NOT work one day, then works fine the next day.

EDIT: SOLVED! It worked the second time because I hadn't updated to the latest definitions. I updated to the latest ones and now it doesn't work again. So I know what causes it, now I need to figure out why it keeps causing it

Now foregetting the history--how would your describe the present problem so that I can try to duplicate the problem on my laptop.

Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate, then download Kaspersky, Bring up Xilisoft and mess around with it, see how quick it is. Download the current Kaspersky Database and Put Xilisoft Video Converter behind the Firewall (You will need VC.exe and VCloader.exe) and you'll see a drop in it's performance.

If I use MSE and Windows Firewall, go into Advanced Settings and Make a new Rule and block internet access there. Everything is fine.

"Why not just use MSE then?"

Because I feel safer using Kaspersky.

Here's an idea. Why not see if I can use my KIS Key on Kaspersky Anti-Virus and use Windows 7 Firewall?

Didn't try with Kaspersky. Just MSE and Windows Firewall and all went well there.

Update: I blocked Inbound...something on the Kaspersky Firewall and had the same issue. I unblocked that and blocked Outbound and it works fine now.

Which one needs to be blocked?

I'm still looking for a Windows Firewall for Dummies explanation to help my understanding.
