Programs, but not programs...

I recently installed Windows 7, having previously backed up my files onto an external hard drive (using easy transfer and doing a full back up).
When I logged on, I retrieved all my personal files using easy transfer, and copied my other data over from the external hard drive onto my internal one.
However, only some programs work, and those that do don't appear on the start menu or the Programs and Features menu. The others either don't come up at all or come up with an error message.
It seems that my programs aren't recognized as actual programs, and I was wondering how to make it so that they are. Any help appreciated.

Most programs when installed make entries into the windows registry. Without those entries the programs won't work, so yes you will have to re-install most if not all of those programs for them to work correctly.
