If I was to purchase an anytime upgrade to ultimate. I currently have professional installed. I found a good deal on amazon for a ""Microsoft Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade (Home Premium to Ultimate) for 94.00$" can I up grade from Professional to Ultimate with this Key, or do I have to have Home Premium installed? Or do you just need to have any windows 7 below ultimate installed? May be a stupid question, I just don't want to waste the money

You'll need to buy the Home Premium to Ultimate Anytime Upgrade which should save some money anyway since Pro if very close to Ultimate in features. Windows 7 Upgrade Paths

In fact I would decide only based on features since performance is identical: Compare Windows - Microsoft Windows
I'll need Home Premium to Ultimate anytime upgrade even though I have Professional? Is there no Professional to Ultimate anytime upgrade? And Amazon, is that a safe place, I mean, it's 94$ compared to 129$ from microsoft.

Don't want a fake that will expire after a while

Sorry I mistyped. :o You'll need Pro to Ultimate as shown in upgrade paths chart.

If you're buying from a retailer via Amazon I think you can trust it. I would not buy software from a private party you do not know.

Have you googled to look for buy.com and newegg prices which often give a break?

I seen them, but never heard of them, so I was weary. They are legit? I am just really looking for a good deal, I love microsoft, they are just VERY expensive haha!

Buy.com and newegg are not only trustworthy but give some of the best service in the online sales business. You can also trust the big box office stores like Office Depot and Staples.

It's an unusual upgrade so may not offer any price breaks, which is why I would go by features since they're almost identical and hardly worth $130 more.

honestly, I really only want to do this because I feel as if I bought an anytime upgrade that will probably expire. I believe I bought it from a untrustworthy source (my fault) so, i'd like to upgrade instead of doing a reinstall of pro. I'm sure at some point I will get the non genuine notification. Also heard about not updating a certain update that checks for activation piracy and whatnot, but would rather do it right.

And I cannot seem to find an anytime upgrade from pro to ultimate. Not sure if it ever exists!

You should have said this from the beginning.

What is it you have exactly that you suspect is non-genuine and what makes you think that?

You can validate your Product Key by calling MS Customer Service. If you have the papers to show you inadvertantly bought non-Geniune, they even have programs to replace it with Genuine windows at no cost.

Please explain in full what has transpired so we can help you best.

Please also look at the charts provided to see what is the highest version of Win7 you need because most users do not need the higher versions except for business purposes and the price breaks for Premium can be very attractive.

And I cannot seem to find an anytime upgrade from pro to ultimate. Not sure if it ever exists!

It exists, Windows Anytime Upgrade: Windows 7 Ultimate for Windows 7 | Windows 7

It is just not a commonly used upgrade path so retailers are not likely to carry it.

Why do you think your Pro upgrade is a potential fake?

What about the advice you were given in your other thread?

http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/215187-can-you-reinstall-anytime-upgrade-no-disk.html

It would be less confusing if you kept all the similar help questions in one thread.

If you are not sure about something, ask as many questions as you want.

I bought an anytime upgrade key from a website it is activated, but no paperwork. I bought the upgrade, never doing it before, I thought i would get something mailed to me, but they emailed me the key. Once I saw that I felt fishy. It went through and its activated, but I just feel like, st some point, it will say windows is not genuine. and I do not to reinstall a lower version, so I would rather upgrade, or enter a new pro key, but not sure if I can do that

Based on what you're giving it is not something I would worry about until the time comes. It obviously activated so you can take that at face value. If there is something about the price or lack of paperwork that has you concerned then you can ask MS Customer Service as they will give you a definitive answer and might be able to help remedy a non-Genuine key. But it may be priced low (if so) due to being a gift/prize or someone bought Anytime thinking it was full version which happens a lot.

In the future the best way to proceed with Anytime is to first save a Win7 backup image of the lower version, then after Upgrade save another image of the upgraded version to use in place of reinstall. Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup. This covers all possibilities.

What was the original Win7 version and how was it purchased? Do you have disks, Product Key and/or a factory Recovery partition onboard?

Okay, Well, I had already bought it, found this forum, then someone said the site wholesaleofficekeys counterfeits. This was after I purchased it and I was kinda embarrassed lol and didn't want to say I had already bought it. I had Premium, but I will be soon working sometimes from home. I do light desktop support for an electronic medical records software. Basically people who do not know how to navigate, install certain things, etc. So i'd like pro or ultimate.

I do have replacement disks for premium, but if it does go to non genuine, won't I lose all my software if I have to reinstall a lower version of windows? And I already used it one, so can I use the same key as long as it is on the same machine?

Yeah, I can't even get that site to load, I can see why you're worried though, $25 for an upgrade. You can always buy a legit one and just enter that new product key like so,

It's $15 cheaper at Amazon than Microsoft, they are a trust worthy source.

You can replace the key or we can help you roll it back to Home Premium using a workaround given here http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/131448-windows-7-downgrade.html#post1132078 then insert the Premium key at Control Panel>System.

Where did you get the Home Premium license?

I help users remotely all over the world using Home Premium and never notice any difference from Ultimate/Professional. TeamViewer is better than Windows Remotes anyway.

Thanks, I orginally wanted ultimate, so if I can go back down to premium without wiping my hard drive I will probably bout the upgrade to ultimate. Since it is on sale for 94$ at amazon.

Make sure the Premium Product Key is still readable on COA sticker, and back it up now to a safe place.

You may also still have the Factory Recovery partition on the HD to see if it can be run from boot after backing up your files. HP Recover Windows 7 Operating System Using HP Recovery - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

If you still have the original factory preinstalled OS you might want to consider getting a perfect Clean Reinstall to shrug off the factory bloatware and useless utilities which have better versions built into Win7. This is often better than getting a new computer.

Do you mean the key from the back up disks? And what do you mean the origninal factory preintalled OS? I upgraded to the professional, so wouldn't that mean I do not have that any longer? And won't a clean reinstall wipe all of my installed software? I am trying to avoid that at all costs. A lot of no longer have the boxes, keys, etc. I moved and brought as little as possible. I dumb move I know.

I was giving you options for rolling back to Home Premium if that's necessary or preferred at any point.

You said MS provided you with a Win7 installation DVD for reinstalling Home Premium with the Product Key on the COA sticker on machine, correct?

You can use that DVD to clean reinstall or roll back to Home Premium using the workaround I posted earlier. Or we can provide you with the latest official Win7 installation DVD ISO with SP1 which will save hours of updating.

Is this clearer now?
