Question Regarding the Invalid Disk error on 3TB Drives

Hello;

Last night I encountered an error (invalid disk) while writing to my 3TB drive. Once the write was completely there was > 2TB of data written to the disk and so this error appeared when I tried to access the HDD.

I did a bunch of google-fu'ing and found a bunch of information and fixes/ (like this one http://www.neondemon.com/archives/how-to-fix-invalid-disk-error-in-windows-7)

However - this doesn't quite match up what happened to me. The value in the hex field was EE not 42. My first question is - does anyone know why it was EE?

Also;

From what I understand this problem began because I had the HDD set to dynamic (I do not know why it was set to dynamic, as it is not part of a RAID), and because I did not have IRST installed at all. I did not realize IRST was an integral part of a build? I thought it was only for SSD caching and the like?

Can some one fill in the blanks here for me please? When did IRST become part of the fundamental driver installs?

Specs are:
Windows 7 64bit
ASUS p8z68-v Pro
OS resides on an OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD
"Work" drive is 2x 256GB Samsung 840 SSDs in RAID0
Storage HDD:
1.5TB
2.0TB
3.0TB

Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

I can only answer part. the IRST also contains the Intel SATA III driver for that board, the other is Marvell, I have one too. SSDs perform MUCH better using it so I suspect HDDs will too.

No worries, it confused me too when I installed board drivers.
