I have been trying to download something called Kiwix. For those of you who don't know what that is it is an offline version of Wikipedia (for those of us who don't have reliable interwebz).
So you can understand better, I will give you the full story.

Kiwix has 2 options of download, (Direct download and Torrent). I had no experience with torrents so I went direct. Somthing you should know about me. The file was 46.6gb big and I have slow internet. My internet is 1.5meg or about 190kbps and upload is about 30kbps. The direct download took about 10 days and when I got it it was corrupt. So a little exploring online everyone told me to go torrent. I learned the basics about torrents after a few days into attempting to the download.
Peers= someone downloading and uploading file at same time. Good
Seeders= someone who has fully downloaded the file and continues to uploading the file. Really Good
Leechers= Someone who wants to download only. Doesn't want to share. EVIL HORRIBLE PEOPLE. lol just kidding.

The problem is, out of my 190kbps down I am only getting 30kbps down. The same as my upload.
Things I have tried myself.

Unlimited download and upload.

Added port into firewall and router for torrent client and the client said it connected successfully. (Client is utorrent by the way) Everyone seemed to love utorrent.

Played around with connection encryption to see if that helped.

Some problems I have yet to resolve.

The trackers who give me peers are old and no good so i need better trackers. Any suggestions?
I am relying on DHT i believe they call it to get me my peers.

And I get Upnp error 402.

So to those who know how to get this to work properly please let me know. How to fix my stuff.
Thanks

update: I have looked into tracker stuff and someone said uT is not compatible with UDP: trackers. Problem is all trackers that I see are UDP. Also I have enabled encryption for uT and It seems to have helped some. Not a lot but some.

Edit2: Somthing else I have noticed. When I first start uT the speed is excellent around 170kbps than it slowly drops to 50kbps so something is throttling me in my opinion.

About all I know about torrents is that the files are highly susceptible to being infected (virus pasted on by the peer by accident or on purpose) and may cause BSOD grief by the way they fudge a virtual disc (CD/DVD). Personally, I wouldn't use a torrent but they are a popular method of transferring files.

If you have a friend with a high speed connection, talk him/her into downloading the file and transferring it to an external disk.

The throttling could be initiated by your ISP or simply the by the available bandwidth at the time. I see mine vary at different times of the day. I get blistering speed early in the morning but by 9pm it's crawling. Most likely there's a lot of people watching movies off the same server/tower I get my signal.

I have heard about the virus thing but the torrent people claim that doesn't happen often due to all the pears will check each others data against corruption/virus attempts. There are about 20 copys of kiwix on a torrent so in order for you to get a virus the majority would need to be infected.

don't know how much of that is true but that is what I have heard.

Well I kept working on it and I found that first I have to stop the torrent BEFORE enabling encryption or it doesn't do a whole lot of good. So now encryption is on and it has improved everything quite a bit. It went from 30kbps to around 90 so that is nice. There is still about 100kbps that it should have access to but it is at least to a point were it is bearable.

Thanks

P.S. I never would have considered torrents if the direct download would have worked the first time lol.
