I installed Wdws 7 Home Premium upgrade on my Dell 1420 laptop. After a few hours, the screen went blank (not a blue screen.) Forced reboot results in a dual screen with 2 desktops split horizontally. After running chkdsk, it will boot normally about ½ the time but either freezes or goes blank after a few hours. Reinstalling Wdws 7 did not work. All drivers seem to be updated.

The sys info is attached. Let me know which dump file you need. Please help.

When you get it running have you checked your hardware drivers for problems?
Go to control Panel
System
Device Manager
Look to see if anything has a exclamation point next to any items(s)

Update your video drivers. Do not use dells current version. I have noticed on laptops that manufacturers are not using custom chipsets anymore and you are now able to use refrence drivers from corresponding companys (ati/nvidia).

If you have the intel media accelerator then go to intel.com and get new drivers.

Crash update

Although Device Mgr showed all drivers updated, I updated to the newest Nvidia driver (geForce 9400M G 195.62). Worked on reboot but lasted just 2 hrs. I now get the blue crash screen so that's progress.

Minidump file attached.

Thanks

Unable to read blue screen before restart. How do I open Minidump? All drivers appear to be updated, reinstall of Wdws 7 & prior Restore Point failed to solve.

Crash & video problem info

Attached is the minidump file from when the problem 1st started.

After upgrading to Wdws 7, the screen either went blank or froze w/o no blue screen. After updating the Nvidia driver, i did get a blue screen.

Rebooting after a crash usually causes a split screen with 2 desktops. Trying to do a safe boot gets me symbols only. Reinstalling Wdws 7 only lasted an hour before the problems started agin.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks!

Crash problem minidump

The problem continues. I think the problem maybe the Nvidia adaptor/driver. The blue screen had "NV1DD***" (unable to get all of it before shut down).

Latest Minidump is attached.
