Random Freezes and Hangs [BSOD logs attached]

Hey

Whats going on :
Recently I started experiencing random Freezes and Hangs. Even during logon [ Starts all the way from after the windows 7 logo ] My computer was working fine till yesterday night. In the morning I was in a hurry and Shut down the laptop. Windows asked me if I wanted to Force Close all programs which I did.

Now it randomly hangs and freezes with the hard disk access light lit up. During these "freezes" the mouse moves around freely but everything else hangs [Including running programs.]

Also I experienced one BSOD while using Google Chrome to search forums for an answer.
And there are several hard faults occurring for svchost.exe .

Is there any way I can fix this without resorting to re installing windows?

What I have done so far :
1. Ran memtest to see if RAM had faults. Result : No Faults.
2. Ran couple of Disk Checking tools and also the windows one. Result : No faults. S.M.A.R.T : OK.
3. Restored to a point yesterday morning. Result : No changes, still hangs.
4. Tried to check minidumps from BSOD. None exist. [Even did a *dmp search. Found a AppCrash report for Zune Player]
4. New BSOD - IRQl_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Uploaded BSOD logs.
5. Ran sfc/scannow in CMD. No corruption.

Check for Windows Updates - you have 71 after SP1 while most systems have 75 or more (up to 120).

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please uninstall the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): DuplexSecure - FAQ

Some free alternatives (I don't use them, so I can't comment on them)
KernSafe iSCSI initiator, Virtual CD/DVD-RW Emulator, Virtual Encryption Disk and Virtual CD/DVD-ROM Emulator All-in-One free software.
MagicISO - Convert BIN to ISO, Create, Edit, Burn, Extract ISO file, ISO/BIN converter/extractor/editor

This BSOD blames your Avast antivirus - I'd suggest:
- downloading a fresh copy from Avast
- uninstall the current copy of Avast
- use the free uninstaller listed on this page: Antivirus Uninstallers
- then install and update the freshly downloaded copy of Avast

If this doesn't fix it, my next suspect is your Comodo firewall. Please follow the directions on the Antivirus Uninstallers page to uninstall it and remove it's remnants. If you do this, make sure that the Windows firewall is enabled after Comodo is removed.

I also suspect your XBox USB controller. Over the last several months we've seen problems with these devices. They use older drivers (from 2009) and there are no updates available. Troubleshooting consists of uninstalling the software and physically removing the device from your system.

The following info is just FYI, I've already addressed the issues that I saw in the above paragraphs

Ah thank you usasma for looking through this ,Uninstalling Avast! has seemed to fix the problem.
I was just reading up on http://forum.avast.com that aswSP.SYS is causing problems with the latest update on x64 systems.

New version of Daemon Tools require you install the sptd driver seperately, and is not installed with my installation.

Also I don't think it is the xBox wireless controller in my case as it has been working fine [I do use it on a daily basis.]. And as I mentioned before, the laptop was working fine until yesterday, Avast! might have updated itself in the night, or it might have applied something after I rebooted in the morning.

Also read that MSE also sometimes causing the same issue on some PCs..

Will try a clean install of Avast! and post back.

It's not only the sptd.sys driver that causes problems with Daemon Tools - that's why we recommend uninstalling the whole thing. But if the system isn't having problems, then there's no need to get rid of it. The same thing goes for the XBox controller (if it ain't broke, don't fix it!).

Good luck!
