Rationale Behind Leaving Windows Mail In Program Files?

I'm wondering what Microsoft's rationale is behind leaving the Windows Mail folder in Program Files, albeit inactive?

I've already done the "fix" to enable WM in Windows 7, but would love to know exactly why it's still lurking in the bowels of the OS in any case?

I can understand the rationale for wanting to plug Windows Live Mail, but then surely remove it altogether from the system?

I don't recall any editions overseas where it is activated, or any other editions where it is an option.

From the files in the Windows Mail folder, it looks like it is for continued support of Contacts in Windows 7.

So I was not the only one puzzled over this anomaly. Have been going through the joy of reinstalling all my drivers and apps on a clean install of the retail Ultimate from TN.

Does not bother me that they leave some things for support of "legacy" constructs.

But how dare they remove Tinker!

Yes I found a way to retrofit it. I just don't understand why they took it out.

It may be that when Windows 7 hit the shelves they'll 'unlock' some 'Updates' which will include Ultimate only updates, just like they did with Vista. You never know

The mail thing could be there as a backbone for Windows Live Mail maybe?

Who knows? The Windows Contacts angle is something I never thought about though.
