RC 7100 no longer valid

I just turned on my pc and found out that the RC 7100 is no longer activated through microsoft. It says I have to back up my data and install an official windows 7 ultimate. I though that we had until March of 2010 to use the RC?...when did this change or is anyone else having the same issue?

Did you activate it with official Key? I didn't know there was a used by date for RTM/RCs?

In the command prompt type in slmgr /xpr
What does it say?

1. It is an official RC...had it the day it came out.
2. when I type that in the command prompt is says " Windows 7 Ultimate unlicensed"...it was the last time I used it. Come to think of it...the last time I used it was before the release date of windows 7..could they have terminated the licenses for windows 7 RC since it has been released?

I was asking about the Key.

The key is what sets it from being trial or not trial.

Tried the rearm and restart the pc...still says that my key has expired on startup....does this mean i should try a reinstall...since my key is not valid. Still says my copy of windows is not genuine but lets me run it. your date on there is april 24,2009...what about todays date for a reference.

Came up alot of windows to hit ok on....alot of ??? and unactivated and unregristered things came up. Is it important to say that everytime I start windows now that Java runtime crashes for some reason. Could this be causing a core OS issue?

Yes, providing that the command prompt said that everything is fine, go ahead and restart. It might be worth uninstalling Java whilst your at it too.

Didnt fix it...still acting showing that it isnt a valid version.

You can Upgrade now to Win7 with just that much on the machine. Custom install, even from boot with formatting. It only looks for any Windows OS as it scans after bootup, then passes the flag to accept key.

Buy an Upgrade and enjoy.

Otherwise, your activation was never done or slipped off somehow. Reinstall your key. It is good until June 1, 2010, only starts shutting down every two hours on Mar. 1

Well, I was wondering if someone uses the RC as a qualifying OS for a Win 7 upgrade if the key used for that install would then be invalid. Maybe we will find out soon.

Which key?

The WIndows 7 Upgrade installer only looks for the existence of a previous Windows OS when it is run from the desktop, or booted into. No key is checked or disabled from the previous O.S..

But you need an Upgrade key to activate.

I think he meant the existing key he used initially when activating RC.

I would have thought, there needs to be a separete 'upgrade' key to be bought and used in the upgrade process.

Yes, I was talking about the key used to activate the RC. You say no key is checked, but Microsoft says it is, or something is checked to disable the prior OS.

I think more about this might be discovered in the coming months.
