Realtek AC '97 Jack Reassignment

Hello everybody.

I just read the Realtek HD jack reassignment thread, and I was wondering if it was possible to do the same thing on a Realtek AC '97 audio card. I'm trying to reassign the microphone jack to replace the headphone jack, which broke off inside the computer. The process of finding the right files in the registry is about the same, until I get to the "0000" part.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M55-S3315 (old, I know.)
It runs on Windows XP.

I know I could get a USB sound card to bypass the original, but I'm checking if there are any alternatives before I go out and spend money.

XP handles some sound functions differently than Vista/Windows 7 and thus the drivers for Vista/Win 7 are not XP compatible. I suspect the tweaks available will not work with the older AC97 drivers.

I've seen user problems on the Dell users forum where someone has installed XP on a new PC designed for Windows 7 and no Dell device drivers are available for XP. Users have had to add items such as XP compatible sound cards.
