Realtek HD Audio (ALC888)

Seems to be big problems with Realtek for everyone.

- I've set everything up right but when I try record voice clips from the soundcard, it doesn't detect any sound.

- My music mastering software (T-Racks 3) doesn't detect the full duplex, it only detects Generic ASIO, but in Cubase 5 (Music Sequencer Program) it detects both.


Something is up with Realtek or is it Windows 7? Please help.

Why are you using the PC's sound card with "high end" audio processing software? That would seem to defeat it's use (I use Sonar 8.5.3 DAW and a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 audio interface unit). As Cubase recognizes it properly it looks like either T-Racks 3 is either not setup correctly or does not have the capability to recognize it properly.

I had a similar problem with Sonar and a Presonus product, and I sent the Presonus back and got the Saffire Pro 40 which had no problems with Sonar. I also tried ASIO4ALL one time with a HT Omega Striker 7.1 card to get it working with Sonar but ASIO4ALL messed up the Saffire Pro 40 connection and I had to dump ASIO4ALL to get the Saffire Pro 40 working again.

I know, I should be using a music sound card. But at this time I just bought a new computer, and now I'm broke at the moment. It seemed to work fine on my old computer where I was using a Sound Blaster LIVE! Digital 5.1 sound card.

I rekon it's just Realtek, I've seen many people encounter so many problems with the onboard soundcard. There must be a way around this! C'mon Realtek, why make something dodgy!

Although I had problems, as mentioned, with ASIO4ALL, you could try it and see how it works with the software. Create a System Restore Point before installing the ASIO4ALL in case it messes things up, so you can fall back to the System Restore point and get back to where you were before installing it.

When is Windows gonna make a update so it works or something, so many people are having problems with soundcards, it's not funny anymore! Why make a new version of Windows if it's not stable and things don't work!

Realtek + Windows 7 works fine here but I wouldn't consider it for any kind of serious music production.

There is a big point with ASIO4All. ASIO4All is a custom "low latency" driver, something unavailable no matter which version of Realtek driver you install.
The ASIO drivers available in Cubase are high latency emulations. ASIO4All is actually a true low latency driver.

Make sure your inputs are set up correctly, right click on the microsoft speaker icon in the system tray, select Recording devices. What's your default recording Device?

I just got to the point to check the ASUS REALTEK on-board sound card on my self-built editing computer (ASUS P6X58D Premium mother board and i7-930 CPU, etc...) for recording sound via the microphone input(Windows Sound Recorder or Audacity). I am not concerned about quality at this point (may be later). I noticed that I can only record sound if I mute the (speaker/headphone) outputs. Actually, it seems that the input signal is divided between the output and the recording software: The more I decrease the speaker/headphone volume the stronger the signal in Sound Recorder and/or Audacity. Reading all these horror stories about Realtek, I am afraid to update the driver (mine is dated 10/14/2009, the version is 6.0.1.5959) - and may be this is not even the driver. I need this with Adobe Premiere Pro for narration, mainly. If this problem is not easily fixable, the should I install an audio expansion card (medium to high quality) to avoid the futile fight with ASUS Technical Support? And if yes, what would be a good choice? Thank for any advice, Laci.
