Solved Realtek HD Audio Manager Completely Missing After Clean Install

Hi There!
I'm new to both this forum and other help sites, not to mention I have all the computer literacy of a brick, well maybe not that bad, as I can install and update programs, but going in and really tinkering around, I don't dare do without some seriously detailed instructions. Please, be very patient with me and explain things in very basic English so I can follow you. I realize this is more of a Windows 7 site and not a basic Vista site, but when I Googled my problem, your site came up with a thread that about covered my problem, except for a few little details that may or may not change your replies to it. The thread I speak of was by a member named NTexan from 2010.
However, I'll explain my own experiences and hopefully you guys can give me the correct link(s) to fix the whole thing. A while back I was having some serious glitches with my computer and called MSN Support and they decided I needed to do a clean install, which I did, as they talked me through it.
Well a while later I not only noticed my entire Realtek Audio Manager was missing (That means files, icon, manager, etc, nothing is there any where on the computer. It is completely gone.) and that I could no longer use my head phones, or even my microphone (both jacks are in the front) and if that wasn't irritating enough, I also can't use my "Audio Recorder" that comes with my computer, or the fancier one I had downloaded and used all the time before. I can hear audio through my speakers quite fine when I play audio or video files, but the audio recording programs don't hear it, and so can't record them.
Unfortunately I can't give you all the info that was requested when I registered, as I don't even know where to look at this point, but I put the basic info that I do know, which is Vista 32 bit, Home Premium, running on an emachines T5274 PC. Oh and I'm on dial up if that actually means anything.
I just want to get my Realtek HD Audio Manager back so I can get the rest of the other problems sorted out, which I'm hoping this will do. I tried going to the Realtek site itself, but all I get is a confusing collection of driver downloads. I assume that downloading the drivers won't get me the actual program, and I've gone all over the web trying to find even one place where I can download it from with of course no success. I tried e-mailing the Realtek techs several times over several months (yes, this has been going on for that long.) and they never once responded, and I used not only their main tech address, but a couple of the other ones, just to try to get someone to respond with some info.
Anyway, I would like to avoid all the trouble others have had trying to find and download the correct files, as quite frankly, if I mess this up, I doubt I can fix it by myself, so it's up to you guys!
Sorry for the long post, but better too much info, than not enough. If you need even more, please give me the dummies explanation of exactly where to locate it because I'm flying blind here.
Oh, one last thing, a friend thought I'm missing audio files that weren't installed when I had to re-install stuff and should be on a disc that comes with the computer, but the only disc I can now find is the OS disc. She said there should be a second one, but for the life of me I have no idea where that may have gotten off to. I wish I knew someone with the same OS, computer, etc, that could make a copy of the second disc or at least the audio files for me, or post the files to a site I can download them from, but no one seems to use an emachines as it's a cheap piece of garbage but all I can afford presently. So that is it. Why is it impossible to find the Realtek Audio manager program itself to download, and only the drivers are available? Makes no sense at all.

Thank you for replying to my SOS! It is appreciated. Now I know that Realtek has the driver downloads, but will downloading the drivers get me back the Realtek HD Audio Manager? Or will it just correct the problem with no headphone sound and no mic pick up, or the problem where the audio recorders don't hear anything in order to copy it for me? You didn't mention what exactly downloading the drivers will do. especially since I no longer have the Audio Manager.
Also if I download and install, what happens next? Or should I say, what should happen? As I said, I'm not computer literate. I learn as I go, as I don't have anyone in my family who owns a computer, who can help me. So I need more help than your basic poster.

If the Realtek Audio Manager doesn't appear, after using the download from above, you can always try the Emachines link.
The driver is older, but it may get you your audio manager, back.

Thank you for your reply! Yes, that is indeed my computer, and since I believe I purchased it in 2009, give or take, those drivers should be the right ones for my computer. If not I can download the updated drivers Roderunner provided the link to.
I'm on dial up and the file is relatively large so will take me several hours I assume to download, so I'll have to probably wait till tomorrow to report the results back here.
What I need to know is, if it doesn't quite work out with the file from the emachines site, if I download the updated one from the Realtek site, will it automatically overwrite the emachines older file or will I need to remove the older one first? Remember, you're dealing with a computer idiot, not genius, and so I have to ask more questions than most.

A very wise man once told me, "The only stupid question is the one you never ask."--He was in the U.S. Naval Academy at the time, so I'm guessing he knew what he was talking about!!

Anyway, to answer your last question, the Realtek site file should (and I emphasize should) uninstall the emachines older file, then install itself. If it doesn't, you'll have to uninstall the older file manually, then install the file you get from the Realtek site.

It took less time than I was expecting to download, about 2-1/2 hours to download the large file and then I installed it, so figured I could come back in with my results tonight. I'm very pleased to report I now have my Realtek Audio Manager back, a bit fancier than I remember it, so I'm taking a wild guess, that this is a new improved version. Fine by me! Okay, so we have half the problem solved, in that I finally have my beloved manager back, which was loads of help to me before.
However, I still have the other part of the problem, and hopefully you guys can talk me through fiixing that as well. I tried using the sound recorder that comes with the computer and still it doesn't register hearing a sound, and then the same problem with my fancier audio recorder program. So do I need to enable something in the Audio Manager, or is there something else I need to click on to get these two programs to work again? The two just aren't hearing anything when I play a video or audio clip. Since they worked fine before the clean install, do I need to download something else to get them up and running again?

Glad you were able to get *half* your problem solved...as to the other half (the sound issues), I'm not sure. Maybe something as simple as a system reboot...or not. Sometimes, just rebooting the system will fix a problem like that. As to the quote, I can't take credit for that--as I said in my original post, it was something a pen pal of mine told me...and since he was a midshipman at the Naval Academy, I assume he knew what he was talking about. (They don't let stupid people into the service academies.)

Hello Roderunner & Robert!
I am pleased to report the other problem has been solved. When Roderunner posted the screen cap from his Audacity program, I went into my own program ("Audio Recorder For Free", a really handy little audio program!) and saw a troubleshooter link so followed that, and it led me to almost the exact set up as Roderunner has, and told me what to click on to fix the problem. I had to make the stereo mixer my default device. Once I did that, and exited everything, I then checked both the audio recorder that comes with the computer and my downloaded one, and both now hear the sound, which registers on their volume meters! Yessssss!!
All my audio problems are now officially solved, thanks to the advice and suggestions of those of you who posted on this thread for me! You guys did an awesome job!
I have one other problem, not related to my audio problems, which I will place on a seperate thread for anyone else who encounters it. However, it's happening with two media players I have, and I just found the update for one of them, so I'm going to download the file, another large one, and after I install it, when I have time I will test it to see if it clears up the problem I've been having with it. Then if not, I will come start the other thread and hope you guys can help straighten it out.

Hi,
I was wondering if anyobody could help. My fiance had his computer reformatted yesterday and since then the microphone part of his headset won't work. When he goes into his recording options his mic isn't there, it just says there are no drivers installed. He was using Realtek HD Audio Manager before it got formatted and since he got his pc back he's been trying to reinstall the manager but to no avail. He tried installing drivers and even tried the link posted above but still can't get it back. He has Windows 7 x64 OS and it's a Dell computer that he got back in 2008.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did he try going to the Dell site and looking up his computer model and OS, and seeing if they have drivers for the Realtek HD Audio Manager for it? I assume by reformatting, you mean cleaning off the hard drive and starting over, like the clean install I had to do? My audio manager disappeared too, but luckily, going to my computer brand's web ste, and downloading the drivers for it worked. I have it back. I don't know any where as much about computers as the people here, so I'm sure if your fiance still can't get the audio manager, someone here can talk him through it, as they did me. Good luck!

I have kind of the opposite problem; I have the software installed, but it doesn't seem to do anything. I click on the file or the icon, and nothing happens.

I'm loath to uninstall it, just in case I can't get anther copy (it came with my Samsung laptop).:huh:
