Realtek HD Audio RCA Recieve No surround

Hey all,

I got a new (old/used) RCA Receiver (RV-9953A) and 5 monitors and a subwoofer. When I put in a cd or run the test tone on the receiver all of the speakers and subwoofer check out--no problems.

When I run a test on the Realtek HD Audio Manager however, it doesn't want to play from the back speakers and it acts like it's in stereo mode (but the subwoofer works).

Is there something I'm missing about how to set up windows/realtek to play my audio in 5.1 format?

Ok, turns out what is happening is my onboard Realtek sound card is only exporting either the front or the back--but I have the sound input (and this is the only way to do it) as a left and right RCA cable (goes from 1/8" to RCA) Is there a way to mix the two lines on my computer before they output?

What is the link to the RCA? Digital or Analog? Where are you getting the 5.1, playing something on the RCA?

Ok, I've been looking into this.
I have the realtek ALC662 onboard. It has 3 (2.1) output/input jacks. My receiver only has left and right stereo RCA cable inputs. (I have a 1/8" to RCA cable)
What I believe is happening is when I set my realtek to surround, it transmits the signal through 2 of the 3 (2.1) ports. (rearL+R and frontL+R) But my receiver is set up to do Dolby Pro Logic, and only connected through the frontL+R port.

So I suppose the next step is: how do I set my realtek sound card to export an encoded front and the rear signal through only one of the ports so that it can be decoded by the receiver? OR is there more to this than I am thinking?

If you are just running analog audio from the speaker out jack, you will only get two channel stereo. You would have to hook up the three speaker outs to equivalent inputs on the receiver to get surround sound.

The other option, if there is a digital S/PDIF output on the PC and you have an S/PDIF input on the receiver you MAY get surround sound. Some PC digital outputs are just two channel stereo and some are multi channel surround sound. I can't say what yours is.

Ok, maybe that's how it does it... through s/pdif --So is there any way I could take 2 analog stereo outs and convert them to S/PDIF multichannel?

The S/PDIF would have to be generated in the PC and a separate S/PDIF output. Combining the Analog 2 channel stereo to digital will not generate a surround sound signal.

According to the spec's for the motherboard, there is an S/PDIF header (port) on the motherboard. If the receiver has an S/PDIF input, you could connect to the motherboard header with the proper connector and use that.
