Recent items history not updating in taskbar

Hi people, I'm very new here, but found the forum quite impressive.

I have read several threads about this topic, but nowhere found this exact problem.

I initially found the windows7 feature (used to various OS's, both Linux & MS, from '98 to Vista, passing through 2000, even ME, XP and so on...) of having the recent items list directly linked to the favorite programs buttons in the taskbar great.

The problem is that, since a while (I don't know what happened WHEN this stopped working) the list of recent files used with some programs (typically EXCEL) doesn't get updated anymore! I checked the %USERNAME%/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Windows/RecentItems directory and there, for instance, I DO find files that, unfortunately, do not show up when I right-click the excel icon in the taskbar.

I double-checked the taskbar properties dialogs (right-click on the start icon and so on, as explained elsewhere here) and it is all in order...

Any hint?

Bye

Hello Fsprea, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if turning off recent items and recent programs, apply, then turn them both back on will toggle them so that they may work properly afterwards. If not, then try a full reset of recent items to see if it may.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi Brink,
thank you very much for your reply, so kind and fast.

Yep: all done. I've even added the "Recent Items" menu to the start menu. The very strange thing is that, there, my recent excel files appear. The annoying mistake is that they do not longer appear in the right-click "recent items" list in the excel icon on the taskbar.

I tried with MsOffice Word, as well. There, I open and save a document, and it is immediately reported in the right-click popup over the word icon in the taskbar. For MsOfficeExcel... I can just cry!

Perhaps a bug in the Excel program???

Bye

After resetting this, it may sometimes take opening a item a few times before it reappears in the recent items list.

Uh?! Why? ' Looks pretty strange for such a feature!

But, anyway. Let's wait and see whether, at the end, it works.

Thanks a lot, again.
