My laptop's DVD/CD drive will not write anything and sometimes will not read either.
- I have tried a CD/DVD drive cleaner without success

Q1: Is it possible to make a recovery media on a USB stick ?
One option I have is to buy an external DVD/CD drive but some (cheap) devices do not write DVDs but will write CDs
Q2: If so what capacity USB stick would I need for 32bit Win7 Home Premium?
Q3: And how would I make the recovery USB-media ?
- a tutorial would be appreciated, specifically applying to USB stick

Thank you? :)

Yes you can

I think a 4 gig drive will do

This site has a download tool for many versions of Windows

Hi,

Q1: Rufus works very well.

Q2: 4GB USB Drivers work perfectly.

Q3: Do you have an ISO yet? If you do, run Rufus, use Create Bootable disk using: ISO Image, then press the button to the right, select your ISO. Then press Start. The USB will be create automatically.

Hope this helped!

Josh

@it0uchpods

Thank you both for your responses :)

I have Win7 Ultimate Media ISO (from DigitalRiver days), configured as multi versions
- both x32 and x64 on standby for a rainy day.
- it isn't raining yet !

I have Rufus (and others): used for other ISOs

Toshiba "drivers" are a concern if I do a clean install using ISO Win 7
- and I have never done a clean install . . . I would like to learn using recovery media :)

Somehwere in GregRockers tutorial (on this forum) I think there might have been a do's and dont's for removing crud from Toshiba specifically.

If all else fails I will resort to the ISO, and then try and chase up drivers

For now I would like to use recovery media to build up my confidence, and then move on ... :)

Thank you for your well intentioned advice

Hi,
It's a desktop correct ?
Those are as easy as going to the manufactures website and use the snid (is what I use) which makes the search So much easier.
Tag is usually next to the activation key tag.
