Solved Recycle Bin is corrupt?

See my post of 12/23/09. That worked for me at the time. I am now running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and have not yet encountered the same problem, but would assume it would still work should I have that problem reoccur. I hope this might be of some help to you. I know how frustrating these things can be!

I have tried that numerous times and like i'd said i had already tried everything within this thread before asking. Allthough it does work and does what it is meant to do, the problem still comes back once i start up my PC the next day. But it doesn't happen if i do a reboot the same day.

I am starting to wonder if my second hard drive is on it's way out but saying that i have no other problems with it. Ever! I do have another spare HDD which is the exact same drive as my secondary one so i may try that one and see what happens.

Dual Boot?

Sorry that didn't work for you. I was wondering if you're running a dual boot setup? I was when I got into that problem and I think several others were as well. I haven't had that problem since I gave up on Vista and am strictly running Windows 7 now. Don't know if that has anything to do with it, but seems rather coincidental.:sarc:

And no i'm just running Windows 7 64bit on my Primary partition of a split down the middle 500Gb hard drive. So i have windows on a 232Gb partition (C), Games etc on the second 23Gb partition (D) and my 160Gb drive (E) is just for backups, movies, music etc. And this is the drive that gives me the error in question.

Recyle bin is corrupt

Hi. I am getting the recyle bin is corrupt on my Windows 7 64 bit system. I tried your solution rd /s /q D:\$Recycle.bin and am getting Access denied.

I am using the free program WinDirStat - it makes it possible to explore and delete the $Recycle bin on every storage that is plugged in.

I'm using Win 7 Ultimate with an Admin account and am being bombarded incessantly with the Recycle Bin corrupt message for drive J (being an external drive). If I accept the option to delete it just comes back again.

I have tried every suggestion in this thread to no avail. And when I try to delete the recycle bin on that drive I get told I need administrator permissions. This is the usual Win 7 BS that admin account users have to suffer.

My final attempt to solve the issue was to reenable UAC and reboot. That almost worked in that the message did not appear for at least 20 minutes but then it came back to haunt me.

As of now I have disabled UAC again and disconnected the drive so that I can use my PC in peace but that drive is critical to me as I use it for backing up all my work.

Any suggestions on overcoming Win 7's nonsense about not having admin permissions would be greatly appreciated.

I just ran into this problem myself. I used cartel's method listed here: http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/1992-recycle-bin-corrupt-2.html#post112055 to fix it.

I used WinRAR instead of 7zip. I could not get the rd command to work either. I have not seen a corrupted recycle bin message again since I deleted the recycle.bin folder.

me too, i did something to cause it, i forgot what it was, oh yes, i was just working on permissions where i shared the D drive to all users, as full access (read write, delete) then i went into the 2 primary subdirectories and set securities to control the actual shares. somehow this corrupted the recycle bin.

i just ran that command, although i still see the $RECYCLE.BIN in there after an F5 refresh, i assume it will work based on what others have said. I did hear the hard drive deleting files however.

Thank-you to SIW2 for the cmd code...worked perfectly. It took forever to load recycle bin and now it loads normally. Thanks again, I joined the forum today because of it

Thanks this example with some tweaks worked fine for me. Win7 pro x64

When I tried using the command rd /s /q D:\$Recycle.bin it did not work for me even when changing the drive letter. Just using C:\$Recycle.bin in the command prompt put me inside the corrupted folder (good way to check if the file exist, may need to change drive letters) and I could see all the files I was trying to remove in the recycle bin. So using the steps below is how I managed to solve the problem.

This is a similar solution if the $Recycle.bin is on the C:\$Recycle.bin or D:\ or etc drive. As I am using a partitioned drive with win7 and Backtrack5

1. On the desktop click on Computer

2. Click on Organize on the top left menu then Folder and Search Options
and open the Folder Options Window

3. Click on the View tab and check the Show hidden files, folders and drives click
Apply and Ok. *This will display the hidden folder $Recycle.bin when you click on your C:\WINDOWS drive

4. Locate and right click on the $Recycle.bin folder and rename it to corrupt or anything else. Right click on corrupt and delete it.

Must rename $Recycle.bin before deleting or it may continue throwing errors like Denied access or when you think it is deleted you see its still in your C:\ drive or it passes the same errors to other systems on your network.

5. Go to your desktop and refresh and your errors should be removed. Should now be able to use recycle bin normally.

If the problem continues after using both these examples you may be experiencing hardware driver issues.

This (rd /s /q D:\$Recycle.bin) worked for me.
Here is what I did-
1 - click windows key <start>
2 - type cmd <search programs and files>
3 - Right click on cmd.exe and select Run As Administrator
4 - type rd /s /q <driveletter>:\$Recycle.bin
5 - press enter.
6 - Voila

So I was experiencing this recycle bin issue and attempted the cmd prompt fix.

Was it supposed to delete an entire folder of things I've downloaded over the last few years, or is this something only I experienced?

Interestingly enough, it only "targeted" the folder titled "Download" which is where all my downloads were stored. All other folders and files remained intact and were not deleted.
