Recently my PC stopped booting and upon startup it would go into the system repair screen, but it never could fix it. When viewing the error messages it said the registry hive was corrupt. I have taken out this drive and mounted it in another PC. I want to try using the RegBack files before reinstalling windows. What directory do I need to copy the RegBack files into to make them "active"? This is what I have in the RegBack folder:

Thank you.

Did it tell you which registry hive was corrupted? That would be important to know since each hive actually lives in a separate file.

If the damaged hive is either SOFTWARE or SYSTEM then you'll have a problem - since those two files in your RegBack folder appear to be null, giving you nothing to restore.

But for the sake of answering your question, the live registry lives in C:\Windows\system32\config.

You might try a system restore from your Windows DVD instead, rolling back the system to a point in time before it stopped booting.

software 0kB ans system 0kB is impossible!! These are corrupt backup copies.
Do you see "previous versions" on this disk? If so go to C:\Windows\system32\config and locate system, software, sam and security. Rightclick on system and select "previous versions". Pick a version. Do the same for software, sam and security. So go back in time, but go back to same date/time for all 5 files. Done?

Now put the disk back in original system and try to boot
