Solved Reinstall After Crash - Product Key Blocked

I had system crash on my Dell E6400. The laptop has been mine since the beginning. It was bought through the company I owned at the time through a new third party vendor. I was delivered to me with no discs or service tag. I am no longer part of the company anymore but through our buyout the laptop is mine. The PC has run faithfully since I received it. Unfortunately the Service Tag in the BIOS is ABCD123 - so I think the license was never transferred.
It had a SSD and when the system crashed there was no way to recover. I had system backups, but the partition backups were corrupted in the process however I was able to get the data off. Since MS doesn't have images anymore I was able to find a place that had legitimate images. I installed on a replacement drive. Since I had access to the old system files I was able to pull the data which is below:

Hi krutzy,

Any chance you can run Belarc on the old SSD.
Recuva is about your best chance to retrieve info.
Have a look in the battery compartment for a COA.

As for the report its showing as an MSDN !!!! install, NO product key in use so its gone to the default key which in turn shows the system as being in the grace period.

The E6400 (and most Dell laptops from that time) have their Windows product key sticker inside the battery slide-in, so you have to remove the battery to view it. Maybe the key that you can find there is different from the one mentioned.

If I see it correctly, you have posted the full key in your post above the Code section.

If you previously used an OEM license (based on the companies own licensing server) the license code won't work with the normal Microsoft Licensing server. To use the product key you must know the address of the companies license server.

The cmd commands then are:
Code:
slmgr /ipk <<license key>>
slmgr /skms <<companies-licensing.server>>
slmgr /ato
If you buy cheap Windows license keys on ebay that only cost 5USD then they use this usually. I don't know if it's legal to buy such keys in the US, but in Germany it is perfectly legal.

Gentleman,
Thank you. I did try looking under under the battery compartment and there is nothing there either.
I did run the slmgr with the key. However I don't know which licensing server they used. I did email them however being the holidays and this isn't a priority I probably won't here for a couple of days. However since you gave me specifically what I should find out I will update the ticket.
In the mean time, is there a way to extract the slmgr /skms <<companies-licensing.server>> data from the backup?

As a last resort I will purchase one online.

Hi

Depends on which of the volume licence key types you had
vlk - would require the companies server details - used on EUFI Bios
mak - uses MS servers - only for Legacy Bios

As i said previously use Belarc, it could supply the info you need

Roy,
First the old SSD was not even recognized by the BIOS or and external drive adapter. Simply said, it was totally shot. Did look up in the Pather/setupact.log on the current PC says it is BIOS. This file does not exist on the backup I had (could have been lost in the copy process).
I did run Belarc and I think this is the info you want:

Software Licenses [Back to Top]
Belarc - Advisor 9b126603
Microsoft - Internet Explorer 00426-069-5324671-86226 (Key: none activated)
Microsoft - PowerShell 89383-100-0001260-04309
Microsoft - Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) 00426-069-5324671-86226 (Key: none activated)

Of course my Product Key serial number doesn't match. What else am I suppose to do?
Thanks

A quick update, no luck. I have done slmgr -rearm act the -ato. I have looked at more you tubes and sites and still no joy. I know my windows is valid. The key is right but serial number isn't. If I could figure out a way to set the product key serial number I think that would fix the 0x004c003 issue. I can not believe it has been this much trouble. Or if I could pull the activation info from the bios that would help. Any other ideas?

Hi

The product key is NOT blocked, Its in a grace period state awaiting a responce from a server, your old companies.

slmgr /ato will not work as that only works on a verified key

The serial key is irrelevant

The product key is NOT in your Bios

Did you ever make an External back-up, something like Macrium/Ameobi???

Roy,
All I have is a Acronis backup that has mostly been decompressed. My original Acronis stores got lost when I reinstalled on new PC but I am sure I have all of the files. I have the token files and such in the system directories. That is all I have.
Thank you!

Roy,
Sorry if I am sounding dumb. It doesn't make sense to me. I found an email with the product key from the provider in my archives and it matches the one that I have.
I might be getting so deep I am making it more complicated than it has to be maybe. I appreciate your help. If it is easier to buy one I will if it is like $25. Not worth stressing out over. I do appreciate your replies. At least I am learning something!

Hi Kevin,

First off you dont sound Dumb, Exactly what forums like this are for.

OK bad news to start
NO WAY a GENUINE Ultimate product key will cost less than $300, if you can find one.

Lets keep going got a few more ideas

1) even tho youve not got a Service tag goto the Dell home page for your lappy, use the Let me Detect option might give us a fallback solution

2) Read this and run Superflys tool, it can pull up original details, possibly the original OEM product key
( i did say earlier that the keys not in the Bios - was referring to your Ultimate Company key)
ShowKeyPlus - Windows 10 Forums

3) Use the Acronis back up you have and run/post the output
slmgr /dli

4) try this
Try phone activation:

Activate Windows 7 manually:
1. Click Start, and in the Search box type : slui.exe 4

2. Press ENTER on your Keyboard

3. Select your Country.
4. Select the Phone Activation option, and hold on for a real person.

NOTEs
Offer to send a copy of that Email
Not to optimistic as yours is an MSDN key

Roy

Roy,
I did all that you said. I finally figured out how to get to a real person. He said "too many activations - you have exceeded your limit." He was unwilling to help further. Basically get a new key.
I will find something but I really appreciate your assistance to me.
You take care and thank you.
